Comments:

An ok swim. First few hundred yards I got beat up, but once things spread out I got in to a good rhythm. Sighting was good. I was dogged the whole swim by a guy swimming almost exactly the same pace as me, but swimming all over the course. He kept bumping me and cutting me off even where there was plenty of room. Such is triathlon!

Pretty happy with this swim. I'm just not a great swimmer.
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

This went fine, but I got the wetsuit caught on the timing chip and had to wrestle with it more than I wanted. Could have been quicker.
Bike

Comments:

Good bike leg, although I was hoping for a slightly better average. Loved the new race wheels and aero helmet. I sepnt most of the leg playing cat and mouse with a woman of about my ability. She was taking off on me on the flats, and I was passing her on the climbs.

In some spots it was hard to find room for all the bikes bunching up, and I was a little worried that we were going to get penalized. Still, a good bike leg and I had plenty left for the run.

One strange moment. Around halfway through this leg I unzipped my tri-suit to try to cool down a bit. On a down hill a bee flew in my suit and stung me in the ribs. Rather unpleasant, and a new/weird tri experience for me.
Transition 2
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

Quick and painless. This went perfectly.
Run
  • 49m 24s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 57s  min/mile
Comments:

As soon as I started the run, I knew by my watch that I had a fair chance to break 2:30. I also knew that the two loop course had plenty of hills so I needed to watch pacing. I went hard, but held enough back for the second loop. It worked well. Starting the second loop I hit it hard, and passed a ton of people. It got relatively hot, which probably slowed me a bit, but overall I was happy with this run.

I missed 2:30 by 24 seconds, so I guess my pacing was just off. I know what next year's goal is though.
Post race

Event comments:

Excellent race. I've done it before, and will do it again.
