I'll be there, admittedly this is my FIRST tri and I am getting very excited. I work in Warsaw, live in Ft Wayne so I am planning to scout the race course next week. Have you done this one before? Do you have an idea of the lake temp? Since this is my first tri, is it worth wearing a wet suit for a 1/4 mi swim?

Good luck. I'll stop back later to see if anyone else has any comments. Less than 3 weeks and counting...

p.s. - nice storm-trooper - I bet there's a story to go with that.

I'll be doing my first triathlon (other than an indoor one) tomorrow in Logansport, and then Warsaw will be my 2nd. I've heard only good things about in from people who have done it.

What is the lake temp? Unless its really cold, I'd like to go without the wet suit...What have people done in the past?

This will be my third time doing this race. It is a fun race. The swim is a bit weedy, but pretty quick, nonetheless. The bike portion is fairly flat with a couple of mild rollers. Out and back. The run has a hill that is steep about 1 mile in, but you run back down hill, and finish off by the lake. All in all it is a really fun race with lots of support from the crowd.

This was my first 3 years ago, and I was hooked.

How are we going to recognize each other here? "BT" written somewhere?????

I'm 30-34 doing my second triathlon as well. I have a red and black Cannondale (no aero). I'm short with red hair. I live in Fort Wayne but work occasionally in Warsaw. Today before work I drove most of the bike and run course and checked out the lake. It was windy and choppy this afternoon. The run course looks pretty benign, but the bike course has an uphill start with lots of turns and corners before getting on the main road.

I emailed the race coordinator, he said the lake temp is 78 deg but that seems really warm to me. I do not know where he took his readings. A friend of mine said his kids swam there last weekend and out deeper they were very cold.

I'm going to bring my wetsuit, but may not use it.

I am 6' 8"  290 pounds with orange hair you can't miss me.

Just kidding.

I am in the Triple Threat Tri Team, and we have some blue uniforms. I will hard to pick so, you can pick me out by the bike.  Silver cervelo p3. I am the only triple threat member with a cervelo. You believe that? I will keep a look out. If any of you are staying in south bend the night before, we can hit carabbas for some carb loading.

I'll keep an eye out for you guys, this is my first tri - maybe get a little advice on transition setup, etc? I have a bluish/purple ancient cannondale - all white TYR tri top.

Regardless, good luck to both of you and have fun.

Advice on Set up:

1. lay your helmet face up on your handle bars if at all possible with your sunglasses inside, this way you will not forget either and they'll go on first!!

2. After you've set up, head over to the swim exit and figure out what path you'll take to your bike....This sounds silly but you'd be suprised how different T1 looks like when bikes are gone and you're moving fast!

3. Same advice for T2, follow the bike exit to your running stuff...

have fun!

I see a few of you that competed in this race last year will be competing again this year. I looked through this thread and didn't see if the wet suit question was ever answered. Was the water pretty warm?

FYI...This will be my first tri. YAY!

The water was warm. I think it was just cool enough to be wetsuit legal, but I believe that the majority of people had no wetsuit.
