Total Time = 57m 19s
Overall Rank = 19/163
Age Group = 50-59M
Age Group Rank = 1/15
Event warmup:

Ran back and forth between the swim area and transition helping the race director get the swim exit set up.
Swim
  • 08m 50s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was pretty happy with my swim. Didn't wear the wetsuit. The water was a little cool, but it actually felt pretty good. Got caught up in a group by the first buoy, but everything was pretty smooth after that.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much - ditching the pull buoy during training swims is helping.
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Long run from the swim exit to T1. Passed a ton of people doing a slow jog. 9th best T1 time - pretty happy with that.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Bike
  • 23m 39s
  • 9 miles
  • 22.83 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike - pretty strong throughout. Did some back and forth with 3 other riders being careful not to draft on a tight course.
What would you do differently?:

Not much - pretty happy with the bike. 11th OA on the bike
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Everything went smoothly...except for almost forgetting to get rid of the bike helmet (duh). That cost about 3 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Don't be a dope and forget to take off the helmet as I'm running out.
Run
  • 22m 11s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent run - steady throughout. Have been doing more long runs for 1/2 IM in Sept, so not as much speed. New Zoots felt good...except on my ankles. Both were bleeding from the backs of the Zoots - have to figure that out.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Post race
Warm down:

Some stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just need to find time to train more.

Event comments:

Really good job for a first year race. Due to massive thunderstorms the evening prior, the race gang was stuck trying to get all the setup done in the morning. They did an excellent job with time constraints. The swim exit was a little mucky because of the storms, but the water was fine. I'll be back if my schedule permits.
