Yes, I did that race last year.  It's a well organized, smaller race.  The swim was fast as the long leg was down river.  The bike is mostly flat with 3 or 4 medium size hills.  The run is a completely flat out and back loop.  The hardest part last year was the heat.  It was in the 90's and the run doesn't have a lot of shade.

Other than the heat, this is my kind of race.  Swim down river and mostly flat.  I'm in.

I am staying at the Days Inn on the beach.  Anyone else?

I'm in!  All the super close places to stay were filled, I'll be at the Wakefield about a mile and a half south of the race site.

If anyone is interested, JeffK and I are meeting for a BT pre-race dinner on Saturday night at Roma's (italian food - pasta) in Dahlgren.  It is along the bike course.

Directions:  When you get to the light at 206 and 614, go through the intersection and take a left between the garage and an old computer shop. Roma's is in the middle of strip of shops.

Time: 6:30 pm

If you are interested in joining us, drop me a note here or PM so we can get a head count.   See everyone this weekend!

Oops, I didn't provide COMPLETE directions.

The bike course is on Rts 205 and 218, with the turn-around just before Rt 301.  Take a right on 301 (N) and at the bottom of the hill is the 206 intersection.  Take a right on 206 (E) and Roma's is about 1.5 miles down 206, at the intersection with 614.

Looking forward to meeting other BTers!!

I'm in for dinner! Sounds great. I'm hopefully staying at the Dahlgren BOQ but I need to drive the bike and run courses to really find out what rolling or medium hills are for a guy from Norfolk with zero hills. Our best hills are going over the various bridges....not like I can do anything about it now. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express - about 20 mins from the race - but hey we will be all the faster !! Especially since staying at the HI

Planning on getting into town at around 3 PM - there is a winery nearby so will check that out - then packet pick up and dinner - we have the kids with us so will not be able to plan but will have to play it by ear.

CYA race day!

MMMMM - winery!  I might have to check that out.

As far as meeting for dinner, everyone is welcome.  Drop in if you can.  We will just meet outside the restaurant. I will try to get there a little early.  If you see some guy loitering, that would be me!  I look like my avatar and go by Doug or Tony.

See everyone this weekend!

From Colonial Beach, if you take a left on 205 (instead of a right for the bike course) you will hit Rt 3 near Oak Grove - there is a big billboard for Ingleside Winery - I believe you simply cross Rt 3 and follow the signs (I think Rt 205 become Rt 638).

Here's their website:
http://www.virginiawines.org/wineries/ingleside.html
Their directions are from the Rt 301 & Rt 3 intersection.
Excerpt:
HOURS: Monday - Saturday 10a.m. - 5p.m., Sunday noon - 5p.m.
TASTING & TOUR FEES: $2.50 tasting fee (includes a souvenir glass)

If you thought the swim was bad - it wasn't just you.

I DNF'd on the swim so I got to hear a lot of folks in transition and coming in on the beach talking about it - the overwhelming vote was that it was awful, and I heard some guys comparing it to the Liberty to Liberty this spring when they were swimming against the current in the Hudson river.
