Hi,

Welcome to the BMC Racing Team.

On the roads of France this team will be protecting their Australia leader, Cadel Evans, last years winner, as he attempts to win a second yellow jersey on the roads of France. To do this his cumulative time across all 21 days of racing must be less than any other of the 198 cyclists competing.

This team also contains legendary American cyclist George Hincapie who is making his 17th (the most by any cyclist...ever) and final Tour De France appearance. 'Big George', as he is known, rode alongside Lance Armsrong for all 7 of his Tour De France victories...

For the BT challenge your team is:

Casie

djastroman

Dorm57

fitmomma2010

kgore

southwestmba

stuart little 9

trigal38

Howdy everyone.  I'm Dave, and I'm a Hincapie fan.  I look forward to winning this challenge with you all!

Although I must admit I'm still a bit confused on how it all works.  All I really know is that I will ride!  Probably about 12 sessions over the next 3 weeks, hopefully 300-400 miles.  Is that I all need to do to get started?

I got in 50 yesterday during the Prologue.

Dropping in to say hello! I'm Dina and am planning a goal of 15 stages but no real goal for miles unless I have to (no way to track miles on the trainer).

Finished another short stage today. Raced a sprint. I thought I might go out for another ride later but the temps here are 102 and I am fighting a headache so I think that is all for now.

I'm not sure I understand what we need to do to win. Do we have to ride a monstrous amount of miles?

I dunno but we just got the challenge handed to us by Garmin!  It came via my wife, but a challenge nonetheless!  Whatever we do, WE MUST BEAT GARMIN!

I would wish you luck, but since you are going to lose anyway, I'll save it.

The final winniner teams are based on the percentage achieved of the team of their individual goals.... so... you set the distance and number of rides you are going to do in the next 3 weeks... and then we all support each other to get our goals done!

Hey all ... first time doing the TDF challenge, so I'm fairly lost at how to establish and track my goals.  I get how to upload from the Garmin but not sure how account for time on the spin cycle.

I'm a fan of the BMC team ... Big George - Cadel, et al.  Sooo, looking forward to competing along with the team.

No ... we have a pretty nice spinning studio at my gym.  I've typically equated a 1hr session to ~16 miles of cycling.  It's probably more due to the warm up - cool down time, but 16 is what I've been using.

So, is the challenge simply to set a mileage goal for the duration of the tour, and achieve the goal?

Hi team BMC!
I'm Stuart from Australia, so of course I'm a Cadel fan!

I'm looking forward to achieving my goals with this challenge.

So what you do is set a goal for sessions/k's/time, and then go out and reach it.

For example, I'm aiming for 16 hours and 10 sessions. So basically if I reach 16 hours, then I get 100% of my goal. If everyone in the team gets to 100%, then we have a good chance at winning. The idea is that it is challenging to get there, but not impossible.

I've done a few challenges before so am happy to answer any questions if I can.

If you are only riding on the trainer, I'd suggest a time goal rather than a distance goal. Also set your number of 'stages' (sessions) too.

The main thing is that you are consistent with your training and don't get too far behind in your goal.

Good luck!

Hey Team BMC. I'm really pumped up for this challenge and am targeting 21 stages and 525 miles. Did 26.68 miles yesterday for the prolouge and 26.84 miles today. (Two 40K TTs and two warmdowns). Hope to use this challenge as a springboard to fine tune my cycling for my August Races at Rev3 Wisconson-Dells and Rev3 Maine Old Orchard Beach. This will get interesting for the weeks I am on the road in Omaha, but I found a bike shop that does weekly rentals and a hotel right next to the bike trail on the levee.

Go BMC!

Andy

Great Stuart ... thanks for clarifying.  I gather that time or distance are the true goal, in that if one falls short for one session, but adds another session to make up or exceed the deficit, they still achieve their goal.

From the team perspective, just wondering if it's possible to 'friend' all of the team members such that we can see their logs and encourage ones on the team?

My goal is: 11 sessions - 19hrs in the saddle

Thanks for the clarification Stuart. I will figure out a goal for hours instead of distance today.

Adding everyone to our freinds list is a great idea.

Happy riding today everyone!!!!!

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I'm slightly late to the party- had to work a 13 hour shift the last three days so I haven't been on the computer much. I am very excited about this challenge though. I don't really know a whole lot about the real TDF but I do love to ride my bike and I like to win- hehe. In fact one of my favorite t-shirts says "Don't be fooled by this pretty face...I play to win!" So let's all get out there and start riding.

I am going to decide my goals today. I want them to truly be a challenge but also obtainable so I'm going to go look at my logs and see what I've ridden the last couple of months and then up it some. Seems a good way to decide.

Now lets go kick some bike riding butts !

Ok so I added my goals and my ride today to the spreadsheet. Let's go guys!
I am in for 8 stages and 100 miles. I know that doesn't seem like much but given that I've ridden an average of about 70 miles/mos. for that last four months, I think 100 miles in three weeks is fairly challenging.

I figure I'll do my darnedest to meet my goals and if by surprising chance I surpass them then I'll just up them. I really do need to ride more and want this to be challenging but I don't want to make them so lofty that I don't attain them and let the team down.

And btw,

I love team BMC's colors. Watched some dvr of the TDF and I'm just amazed. That's all I'll say cause I don't want to get in trouble with the ban police. I just had no idea what even took place- I just knew it was THE bike race. I'm loving watching and learning and am sooo excited about this challenge that I rode my bike twice today- hehe.

Let's go team BMC,

Shelly

Entered my goals this morning and looked for the Tour on T.V. Looks like we are not subscribed to the channel it is aired on . I'm very disappointed about this. We have Dish network and my husband just upgraded our package so he can watch baseball but still no Tour.

Let's go team BMC! Team is looking strong so far at the TDF. I follow Cadel Evans and George Hincape on Twitter (though Cavendish is by far the most entertaining.) Getting out of the gate pretty well rode all four stages thus far and went over 100 miles aleady with a 34 mile ride tonight. How's everyone else doing so far?

Got in my 2nd session today, it was an 8 minute FTP test, the final of the Trainer Road spring Challenge.  Spent the last 3 months working on increasing my W/kg using Trainer Road, and man has it helped!  My W/kg increased by over 30% in that time.  Its really shown in my bike splits in my last few races too.  All I can say is that Trainer Road WORKS!

I'm gonna go get me some 4th of July riding done in the morning too.  Hope you all have a great holiday and get your rides in!
