DQ Tri/Du
65F / 18C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 19m 55s
Overall Rank = 95/245
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 17/32
Pre-race routine:

got up early and was picked up at my house by TRIBMAC and was pleasantly surprised to see his wife and kids were in the car - AT 5:00AM!!!!

so it was a nice 1 1/2 hour ride to the race with some nice traveling companions

did not get up early and have any coffee - it's just too early to try and get up have my coffee, read my paper, and hit the restroom

also didn't eat anything - thought I'd try racing on the energy from the night before and maybe get something when we got to the race (did get a soft pretzel and had a few Clif shot gel cubes)
Event warmup:

not much - just set up transition, pick up packet, etc.
Swim
  • 09m 9s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

after last weekend I reverted to my old strategy of waiting a few (15-20) seconds to let my wave go ahead so i can establish a steady rhythm

worked well for a while but when I started catching up to them I started having trouble berathing again - not on the level of last week but just enough to make the swim tougher than it usually is for me
What would you do differently?:

not much - try and figure out what's affecting my breathing during the swim - the last few years I've kicked butt (for me) on the swim so this is really stumping me!
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

had to take a little bit to catch my breath but overall uneventful
What would you do differently?:

not much
Bike
  • 44m 25s
  • 15.2 miles
  • 20.53 mile/hr
Comments:

felt pretty good after getting my breath back from the swim - kept my cadence high (where I wanted it) and overall felt really comfortable - I could really feel the difference in my new TRI bike and my old road bike fitted with aerobars
What would you do differently?:

not much - just need to train with higher intensity on my rides
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

felt much better and didn't really need to catch my breath
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 23m 59s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

felt OK aerobically and probably could have pushed it a little more (15-20%) my shins and calves were tightening up - I must have been using them alot on my new bike - might have to check into the cause
What would you do differently?:

probably pick it up a little more out of T2 and towards the end of the run
Post race
Warm down:

hung out with TRIBMAC and met LaurenSU02 had some refreshments and watched some of the awards then headed home for the 1 1/2 hour ride

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nothing

Event comments:

It felt good to know that the last race was a fluke although I think I've still got some kind of bug in my chest or throat - the swim is normally not that hard for me - I have'nt had these types of breathing problems since my first race 4 years ago - so I'm going to call the doctor again and see if she'll give me some kind of antibiotic

I also know where I need to concentrate and what I have to work on so I'm gettin' on it!

Nice job!  Glad it went better than last week.

Hope you do get your breathing issues figured out soon though, so you can put some pressure on TRIBMAC later this summer.

Great job.  You had a great run, and very fast transition times.  You should swim with me in the 50 meter pool at Uppper Main Line Y.  Just remember, there are 2 more races this season that we can compete against each other.
