Holy Crap! Where do I begin?

I started out too fast, with too high a HR. I didn't drink enough. But overall I was not in adequate cycling condition.
What would you do differently?:

Ride more. Drink more

Comments:

I had no gas from the beginning. I had to walk three times and still couldn't get my HR to decrease.
What would you do differently?:

Ride my bike more. Drink more on the bike.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Without a doubt, the largest impediment to my performance was my lack of cycling fitness.

Second would be my water intake. I consumed 64 ox of water in the 8 hours that proceeded the finish of the race but did not pee until 8 hours post race finish; and that was a pathetic, bright yellow effort. I am actually a little frightened now that I look back.

Event comments:

Excellent, well run race. I enjoy this one a lot.

Nice race! I did the Buffalo Olympic yesterday also...those headwinds weren't fun. I thought the turnaround at the cemetery was appropriate. Maybe we'll see you at the next MN race.

I got passed by a fellow in the cemetary and made a comment to that effect. I am guessing, judging from your time, that you were quite a bit farther ahead when I had that brief chat.

the cemetary was lovely. wouldn't have been a good place to drop out of the race. hee hee.

you did a fantastic job. if 20+ mph is 'lack of cycling fitness' i'll take that any day!

It was interesting to read your report and your take on how the bike affected your run. I know that you have a much better run in you. Your swim and transitions were excellent! Was this your first Oly?

I should not have exceeded 7:30 miles. This tells me that bike fitness and nutrition / hydration were factors. I took 20 oz of water and 20 oz of drink mix on the bike. I finished with half of each. I have no excuse for not finishing each of those bottles.

This is my first OLY and was a great learning experience. A 2.5 hour race is quite a different animal than a 1 hour race.
