Went out at sub 6:00 pace for the first mile. The whole race went out very fast, I tried to just let people pass and look down at my garmin to keep pace. Still went too fast. I'm not sure if that helped me or hurt me in the long run. The last .8 miles I could feel myself running out of gas and my pace slowed to the mid 6's. Knew I was cutting it close to get under 20:00 (my goal for the race), but pushed through and came in at 19:52.

Maybe back off the pace for the first mile, but I don't know if that helped or hurt. In the long run, that's the pace I'd like to be running the whole race.

Didn't stretch properly, but I could hardly stand at the end. Was pretty sore for the next couple of days. Took a day off the next day, then a bike and run two days later.


The humidity was high and even though the race began at sundown, it was hot. I'd been training in the heat of the day in prep, but there is no way to completely mitigate the heat. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do when the weather cools in the fall.
