Pre-race routine:

It was raining that morning pretty good and temps were in the 50's if I recall. Basically just a shitty day to start with. For some reason I set the wrong alarm on my phone when I went to bed so I was awake in time to get to work no where near early enough to load the car and drive 45 minutes to the start. Ughh....

Missed the swim start. Opted to just do a duathlon and waited for the first few swimmers to come into transition and then cross the mat and get started.

Mounted the bike and headed out of transition. Steep climb out of the park and I put the hammer down. SNAP! Chain breaks. Turned around and coasted back to VO2's tent and Peter got my chain back in order after about 10 minutes and I was off and riding again.

Rain was brutal and made descents difficult as I could not see where I was going. Around mile 20 my chain started to creak again and being this is a hilly ride started to ease up a bit just hoping to get through it. Nope...

SNAP! Mile 23 my chain breaks apart and I am sitting stranded on the side of the road. Thanks to Nancy from Train Smart for picking me up and giving me a ride back to transition.
