For those using a 16 week program to prep for Des Moines - we're approaching the end of week 1! For many of us in the midwest - the heat has been brutal - but hopefully the weather cools off this weekend and we can continue our solid race prep.

I'm squeezing a local tri and then hyvee into my plan over the next two weeks. Cooled some here in kc, nice change from the stretch of 100's we had.

I actually had the chance to run in the rain yesterday. Northern Illinois - I think we've had 3 days of rain since May...

Good luck with HyVee - stay healthy so you're ready to run in October!

Approaching 2nd 20 miler this weekend - which will be another of my combo weekends. Will run about 5 miles - then race Fort2Base (11.5 miles) then a cool-down run of about 3.5 miles.

First 2 race events I've done this year - 15 mile run - which included a warm-up, then a 10K (3rd AG, PR); then run home; the second was an 18 miler with a 10k squeezed in between (1st AG, 4th overall).

I used to be big on just grunting out the miles. Since I started sandwiching the long runs with some speedwork, I've dropped my marathon times significantly.

1 month to go!

We're in the final two weeks - tapering should be taking place, travel reservations checked...

Good luck to all in Des Moines. May we have cool weather - and the winds always be at our backs!

Just dropped in to say hi, I decided to do this marathon because i'm an employee for the title sponsor (IMT).  Anyone planning on stopping in to the high life lounge after for some drinks / velvet elvis?

This is my first marathon so I hope it's a fun one

edit: I am also in taper last week and this week after I knocked out the 20mi run friday night (aka the night after they found the mountain lion here in town)... I changed my route to go from beaverdale -> 60th westown (WDM) to just run 18 laps around my neighborhood.  I survived the mountain lions but the cougars at Saint's gave me a run for my money.

I'll be starting with the 12min / mi pace group and will either be wearing a black / pink farrell's shirt or a ghostbusters shirt. Haven't decided yet.

That was a beautiful day!  It started a little chilly but those of us that started near the back had a human powered space heater until we passed out of downtown and had that blast of wind.

I finished with a time of 5:17 which I am MORE than happy with.  I always love being reminded how beautiful and gaudy some of the houses south of grand are.  Unfortunately the run through water works park and gray's lake were boring as heck - I will surely do this race again next year.
