Total Time = 1h 19m 48s
Overall Rank = 141/308
Age Group = 35 - 39
Age Group Rank = 13/24
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5 AM and out the door by 5:30 for the hour drive. My wife and girls were right there with me as usual.
Event warmup:

No real warm-up other than about 200 yd swim.
Swim
  • 09m 59s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

My best swim in a tri ever. Felt like I was just smooth and steady. Never felt like I was pushing too hard or out of breathe. Never had any contact with the exception of the first 2 seconds of the race. An older gentleman (with no goggles) Made his way right up to the front and got right beside me. No big deal. As soon as the horn sounded, he jumped in front of me and went straight to the breaststroke and kicked me right in the jaw. Quickly moved around him and kind of laughed. If I can swim like that again, I would gladly take another foot to the jaw. The water was very smooth. I kept thinking I was off course because there was no one around me. Got to the first bouy and glanced back and realized that I was out front. I was shocked. Stayed that pace and came out of the water first in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Absolutely nothing!
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Need to pick it up a little. Maybe quit wearing socks for a short ride.
What would you do differently?:

Speed up
Bike
  • 36m 42s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.62 mile/hr
Comments:

Not a bad bike for me but it could have been a little faster. No issues with tires this time.
What would you do differently?:

Push just a little bit and I could be back up over 20mph.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Not bad. I could get to the race sit a little earlier and get a better spot. First come, first serve and it's a hour away so I don't see me doing that.
Run
  • 30m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

My run contiues to be my biggest struggle. Although I'm not terribly upset with my run because that is about the pace my coach has me training. I'm training for IMFL and we hoping to be around 10 min miles for the marathon. So if that's what I've been training for, I guess that's ok.
What would you do differently?:

Continue to work on the run.
Post race
Warm down:

In the pond to cool off.

Event comments:

Not sure how many NASCAR fans we have on BT but Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kane and most of Jimmie's crew raced with us today. Jimmie and Kasey were great. They made themselves very accessible to everyone and took time for pictures and spent a lot of time with all of us. I was very impressed with the way they treated the crowd.
