TRI-FAMILY RACING
95F / 35C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 10m 12s
Overall Rank = 50/81
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 5/7
Pre-race routine:

Got up around 3:50am and started off by hydrating and drinking 16oz of water. Ate a bowl of cereal and had all my stuff already setup the night before ready to go in the car. Got there around 4:40 and suprisingly the parking lot was full. Got a decent spot in transition area despite the front and middle areas being all full.
Event warmup:

Transition Area closed at 5:00am however the Maxi Tri did not start until 6:40. So just sat around and waited while I chatted with friends.
Swim
  • 10m 6s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 01s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim wasn't too bad, I did not have to fight off a crowd and was able to get into quick comfortable pace for myself without gassing up at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Stay consistent with my swim training
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 42m 25s
  • 12.6 miles
  • 17.82 mile/hr
Comments:

I was hoping for a faster time closer to 40m and faster than my previous bike split in February, but I was nearing the peak of my first ever Olympic Triathlon. I had only been training for 3 weeks consistently prior to this race as I had taken off 6 weeks of training prior to that. For the first time, I even took unvelcroed my tri shoes off the bike while i was still pedaling, this helped shaved a lot of time out of my transition into the run.
What would you do differently?:

Continue to stay consistent with my trainingcycling 3x a week.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 17m 41s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I've been training to run sockless and it paid off during my transition. I had to walk through the aid stations but was still surprised with my time.
What would you do differently?:

I need to focus on running more often and more consistently as the run is the weakest of all 3 legs. When I was running 4x a week, I had an easier time running without cramping.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness level and lack of consistent training leading up to the race.

Event comments:

Overall, I am pleased as this was a new PR for me at this race. I think I owe a lot to minor changes such as running sockless and getting my feet out of my tri shoes towards the end of the bike leg. I can now see how having a fast transition can help shave minutes off the total race time.
