1) Winning - finishing is winning.

2) Having the coolest gear - LOL...will never happen

3) Not looking stupid - daily occourance anyway, why should that stop during a race?

4) Not asking for help with my stupid wetsuit cord - Triathletes are by and large so helpful and positive.

5)  Looking cool and collected at the finish line.  - Now I raise my arms like I won.

2) Having the coolest gear - LOL...will never happen

A HUGE +1 on this one. My tri bike is a old titanium round-tubed frame from the early 90's with 650 wheels, and I'll keep on racing that until one of us is in the grave. Fancy carbon, hidden cables, all that hoo-haw doesn't mean much to me -- the engine still drives it, and the bike I have is the most comfortable tri bike I've ever been on. And I'm also big on reliability instead of light weight. You have to get to the finish line before you can win.

Other things that aren't important:

* Heart rate training.

* Speed work.

* Finisher's medals (or even AG place medals, for that matter).

* Race expos.

* "Destination" races.

* Anything WTC.

Yeah, but not like I can use tri as an excuse, I have never really cared Tongue out

I agree with what the OP said, you just go to do your best and I am less worried about what people think. I used to think that I had to PR EVERY race I did, or it was a sign of failure on my part.  I haven't PR'd in awhile, and I am still having a blast and can walk away pleased at the end of every race.

Alcohol is no longer important but beer doesn't count. It's either a supplement, food, or AG Version of an Award depending upon one's perspective.

I don't judge!   And honestly, I still love it too.  I just don't partake near as much anymore.

EA SPORTS makes it easy now not to care about madden or NCAA football. I use to play them during off season but the quality of the game is pathetic. They spend too much money on marketing and not enough on game play. I'm hoping NCAA is better after the amount of god awful reviews they received. Hopefully they hired somebody that actually knows the rules of the game.

I no longer give a crap about "tapers" anymore.

If I feel like doing some hard workouts the week before the race, I do them. The objective is to have fun and feel wiped out. Then not feel guilty having some beers.

Ditto. Because I was going to respond, "Anything on television."

But, yes, I no longer care about how I look. I wear a headlamp and a reflective when I run at night, and I don't care how the neighbors snicker. Tongue out
