Set Up Events
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 45m 14s
Overall Rank = 237/402
Age Group = Master Clydes
Age Group Rank = 6/14
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:15am at the hotel, a little breakfast and then to the site. Arrived about 5:50am, got parked, unloaded, and made the trek to the site about 1 mile away.
Event warmup:

Took the bike for about a 3 mile ride to shake it down from being in the car. Nothing major.
Swim
  • 23m 43s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt a lot longer than 820 yards, typically even in open water can attain way less than 2 min and 30 seconds/100, not today, even with much more swimming this year.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more
Transition 1
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

Pretty good transition, first in my division, stayed out of my shoes a little too long and it may have cost me a few seconds overall, but nothing too bad.
What would you do differently?:

not much, continue to do well in T1
Bike
  • 54m 3s
  • 17.5 miles
  • 19.43 mile/hr
Comments:

Pushed pretty hard I thought, but thinking back I was more focused on being able to train tomorrow for B2B.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed harder on the bike, probably gave away 2 minutes on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Lost some time coming into transition getting behind a couple of people and also lost my water bottle that I had to go back and get. Thought twice about leaving it but was glad I had it for the run. 5th in T2 in age group, lost about 10 seconds with the water bottle fiasco.
What would you do differently?:

Not drop my water?? Push harder on the bike too not get behind others coming into transition.
Run
  • 24m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

again did not push as hard as possible as I have a 10 mile run tomorrow but still pushed the pace pretty good, maybe could have come in about 30 seconds quicker but it was hot and muggy.
What would you do differently?:

not much
Post race
Warm down:

walked around had two slices of pizza, two bottles of water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

distance training versus speed

Event comments:

pretty good race, alot of people on a smaller course. quite a bit of drafting witnessed on the bike course, still amazes me that more penalties are not handed out though.

Nice job. See you at B2B. That swim was way long...everyone seems to have been much slower than usual.
