Total Time = 1h 22m 35s
Overall Rank = 108/413
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 6/15
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast at the house (waffles with PB and syrup); left at 6 am, red bull on the drive; arrived in Amesbury by 6:30 am to register and set up.
Event warmup:

Walked back and forth to the car to warm up, swam for 10 minutes or so.
Swim
  • 13m 47s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Put myself in a good position in the pack (front of the wave), so I was able to go out with a clear path. Things got messy as we quickly ran into the tail end of the previous wave, and then spent the rest of the swim dodging slower swimmers. Based on my overall time, I could have gone faster/harder, particularly on the last third (swimming in from the 2nd buoy). Overall, though, I was happy with the swim: My breathing was good, my stroke was good, and my navigation was good.
What would you do differently?:

Focus on increasing the pace in the last third of the swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Generally, T1 was fine, with the exception of putting on socks, which continues to eat up time (at least 30 seconds).
What would you do differently?:

If I could, I would ditch the socks.
Bike
  • 38m 7s
  • 12.3 miles
  • 19.36 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike, and rode comfortably. Having previewed the course the previous Saturday definitely helped.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Had a good ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 7s
Comments:

Good T2.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 27m 36s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Okay, so starting out I felt pretty slow, and picked it up a bit, but my actual time was much faster than I thought it would be. This was a good run, but I know I can actually do better, if I push the pace earlier.
What would you do differently?:

Push the pace earlier.
Post race
Event comments:

Overall, I took almost 7 minutes off my time from last year. Mostly, this was in the run, but I also had a faster bike and swim than last year. I guess the training is paying off!
