Subject: Hot Weather Nutrition

What do you all eat/ drink in super hot weather BEFORE you work out.  Im scheduled for a run this afternoon.  its supposed to be upper 80's low 90's with stupid high humidity.  I plan on just covering my distance, and not reallypushing for a quick pace.  I figure it will be good for me one way or another... assuming Im not dehydrated to start.

 

On days like this I tend to have , um, tummy problems.  I think its stuff I eat, combined with heat and exertion.  I try to avopid dairy at all cost.  That said, a kids gotta eat.... what would you get that is handy at a local deli, or mini market?  it is 12:39 now, please respond by 12:41 so I can get lunch- kidding

What would you eat before a high exertion run in cooler conditions? Shouldn't be that different.

any basic sandwich should work just fine.  i usually eat one around 1pm, then have a snack (some sort of fruit) around 3pm then go run around 4-430.  you could always try a gu 30mi before your run if you feel you need a little sugar boost.  but the key is the hydration.  you should be drinking all day, every day...not just the day of your run.  for reference I run in 95-105 temps regularly.

and, if it is hotter than you are used to...slow down!

If you can get some pertzels that would be good, the extra salt will help.  You should be drinking ahead of time.  Tomorrow I have a long 15, so after lunch...I drink, go potty, drink go potty...repeat.  Almost once a hour.  Then one hour before run time, I switch to gateraid.  I bring two bottles of fluids, one to drink and one to wet my head. In this weather, you zap fluids fast.
