Any idea of were transition will be set up with swim finish being on the south side of the lake? The course maps imply that the parking lot and tree/green space next to the swim exit is the transition area, but this doesn't seem open or large enough to me - at least from a satellite map view of the area. Am I wrong?

90% in.  Depends on how the old body is feeling after the Pigman.  I may sign up anyways just to walk the SWAG Bag row!!  Usually some pretty nice stuff given out and a trip to Des Moines is only 3 hours for me.

If all works well, I will be bringing 6 Sioux City studs with me.

If transition is the same place as last year, it was huge!  And long!  I think it was on the north-east end.

Aren't the pros going off before the age groupers this year?

Just recovered from bout of Strep Throat - took a major chunk of training time!

Still looking forward to the race and hoping to ease back into training this weekend.

My buddy is doing the AG Championship as a Clydesdale.  I think they do the same swim start at the regular AG, but go out in front of the AGers.  Basically, they have 8-12 go every 10 seconds or so.  It goes through pretty fast.

I just signed up.  Now gotta figure out the hotel situation.

I'm doing AG champs. Basically the same as AG but they go out before the AG. Great venue and value race.

If anyone needs a hotel room, I just booked at Hotel Fort Des Moines for $89 / night.  Hy Vee Triathlon special.  Otherwise would have been $129 per night.  Two days after Pigman and ready to hit Hy Vee.  Looks like it's gonna be a nice day.  Low to mid 80s for a high.

What do you think the odds are of a wetsuit legal race?

Hopefully not like last year.  Saturday Night:  100% sure will not be wesuit legal.

Sunday morning:  It's a miracle, the water temp dropped 6 degrees and now it's legal.  Talk about a mad dash to the car / hotel / home / wherever the wetsuit was located.

Unfortunately they don't have any rooms available August 31. We are coming in from Houston but only if I can find a hotel for Thurs-Sun.

Got a room at Stoney Creek, not as close as I would like but a good place for kids I think. Any chance for a BT meet up? Anybody know if we will be ble to swim Saturday? I am hoping no wetsuit since I won't get a chance to practice in one before. I have raced wetsuit before, just not a fan.

Highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s this week.  Sunday is expected to be a high of 80 and a low of 60 degrees and no chance of rain (as of yet)!!!  Could be perfect weather?!?!?!?!

With lows overnight getting into the 50s I'm betting on a wetsuit legal race come Sunday.

Last bit of info, I heard the Des Moines River is really low.  May affect the pros.

Thank you so much for posting! It's nice to see some activity on this thread Smile

I have been checking the weather and was glad to see lows in the low 60s but hadn't seen anything in the 50s, maybe a cool front is moving in. I was really hoping it would not be wetsuit legal since I am in Houston and won't have a chance to practice in my suit.  Anybody know if we will have a chance to practice at the Lake?
