Which is awesome, but she's currently the worst swimmer I've ever seen.  She can put her face in the water, but doesn't like to be unable to touch the bottom, and if you happened to catch a glimpse of her "swimming" you wouldn't describe what you saw as a swim stoke.

Know any good Learn to Swim type lessons?  We live in So. St. Paul, the Y in Woodbury seems to have adult lessons that would work for her lack-of-skill level.  Are there other, affordable ones out there?

For inexpensive lessons, check out community education. I learned at FOSS. NOT inexpensive, but very positive and lots of attention.

Oh dear...  She doesn't have any idea about BT, right?

I have probably spent more than what one would qualify as "affordable" on swim lessons, but a good option is Total Immersion at the YW.   She might have to cross the river and go the YW Midway, but individual lessons are the bomb.

With an individual 6-pack, it's all about HER.

In the fall, I plan to remind folks about the Genesis Aquatics program in St. Louis Park.  Not ideal in any other way, for your wife, other than price and super awesome  detailed form instruction.  She would benefit, but it would be a sacrifice due to schedule.

BikerGrrrl can attest that sharing a lane with me before TI was a little like OWS practice. But she can't even tell I'm there now. :-)

It's true, he should be the poster boy for changing your swim!

FoggyGoggles - 2012-07-20 8:07 AM  I have spent three sessions with Dave and he removed all the bad habits I had from learning to "swim" in the Navy. (Combat swimming is more like long distance drown-proofing.)

Funny, when I was in college I Life Guarded for the school and every once in a while I would have to guard for the ROTC programs as they had their swim instruction and testing.  I always wondered if they were trying to help or kill their recruits.  To their credit, I never had to leave my chair.

But, I have watched the TI instructor at my lifetime and they seem to have a very good method.  For someone starting out I would recommend the TI philosophy.

Community ed or a Y program are probably the best route to get her acclimated to water and somewhat proficient.  After that, move to a MIW program if she is really serious about swimming.

You are in SSP, I swim at the Grove in IGH, they have $4 admission late night, fro open swim/gym.  They also have private lessons, it might be worth a look.
