According to the event website "With temperatures in Kelowna expected to continue to be well above normal until race weekend, there is a strong possibility that the use of wetsuits may be prohibited according to the Triathlon Canada Competition Rules and the ITU Competition Rules."

Wetsuits and second swim suits would be prohibited above 22? for the Olympic distance. How has the water temp been in previous years? Just curious as it may be a good time to invest in a trisuit..

According to that 'flyer', it is from 2009.  I don't know for sure, but I don't think temps have been 'well above normal' this year?

Didn't even realize it was that old. It would be nice if they kept it updated.

Most years it's wetsuit-legal, some years it's not. It's a great swim either way. Water is very clear and very few weeds, detritus.

I just did the Peach Classic Tri in Penticton last weekend.  It was NOT wetsuit legal, the water temp was 24C.  Seeing's as it is the same body of water, I am going to say there is a very good chance of no wetsuits this year.

The water in penticton wasvery warm. I came home to kelowna and got into the water here on the same day and it was much cooler. Probaly has something to do with the tides and the depth of the lake in kelowna. I think it will be a wet suit legal race. We will find out on race day.

I'm crossing my fingers for a wetsuit race... I am so slow with one, and even slower without... lol.

I just registered for this years Sprint.  I'll be well back in the pack but still looking forward to it.

I swam in Okanagan Lake this morning (Penticton) and my cheapy floating thermometer said 75deg F.  I wore my wetsuit anyway but in terms of temp I didn't need it.

dfquigley - 2012-08-11 12:52 AM 22C in Kelowna as of this morning.

I found this nifty website which lists the temperature of the day.

http://www.acrossthelakeswim.com/news/new-water-temperature

It lists 22.5, but if you check the twitter feed, the tri swim area is usually 1 degree cooler.  So 21.5 right now... so close... Surprised
