Heard on the news yesterday that the National Organization for Marriage called for a boycott of Starbucks because they support same sex marriage. Apparently they started in March but I must have missed that thread in COJ. I boycott Starbucks because the are pretentious and over priced an ford I don't care their coffee.

Apples and oranges one is voicing an opinion the other is acting in a discriminatory fashion.

This is old news (and I appreciate that the source is biased) but WinShape does, apparently, refuse to allow LBGT couples at their marriage camps.  I don't know if this story has been debunked or not, but, if true, that is acting in a discriminatory fashion.  Personally, I don't have a problem with a private marriage camp being open only to man/woman couples, but it is discriminatory.  If true.

Now that is a much murkier issue as you are now getting into freedom of religion areas.

The Catholic church is allowed to discriminate against women by not making them priests yet there is no outcry over that.

Jesus appointed men to the position of apostles, the priests are the succesors of those twleve. Women served in otehr capacities. Look up the New Testament and you will see Lydia and Priscilla.

So their discrimination is based on religion. what is your point?

The point is that it is NOT discrimination. Jesus set the requirements / criteria for the job and the Church is following through.

Various jobs have requirements for those positions, if you don't meet the requirements you can't have the job. That is not discrimination. Ie Radio men on Naval vessels were at one time required to know Morse Code. If you didn't know code you couldn't do the job.

Most job requirements cannot be based on gender unless they are religious which gets granted the exception along with the military.  That does not mean it is not discrimination.

Sigh, The job of surrogate mother requires a uterous, men are "lacking" that. It is not discrimination.

So you are saying the preaching is done by the penis? One is a physiological/biological requirement, how is a penis required to spread the word of God and minister to the congregation in the role of priest or even Pope? That's right because according to the Catholic church Jesus say so. Seems to me there are women of other religions doing just that. Btw I do not have a problem with the Catholic church's right to practice their religion as they see fit but that does not make it not descrimination. When homosexual couples are afforded the same rights to "marriage" as heterosexual couples, which will happen some day, I will support the Catholic church's right not to marry homosexuals in the church as a function of their freedom of religion as well.

****MOD COMMENTARY***: What started off focused ended up on about 14 topics, including TAN creeping into the discourse. I'm going to ask that if you'd like to hit a particular topic, start a thread on that topic. This is not directed at Kate, she just happened to have the last post that I tacked this onto...
