Pre-race routine:

Park, Change, Pay, Mark & Chip, setup transition
Event warmup:

jog to the lake and a couple of out and back swims (about 300 yd wu)
Swim
  • 10m 3s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started in the last wave of men - only about 20 of us, which was nice, but no chance of drafting anyone. I did end up right next to some guy the whole time ! Couldn't get away from him until we rounded the last bouy, then he just disappeared. Don't think i ever saw him again.
What would you do differently?:

Navigation seemed a little off, i think having someone so close to me on my left, which is where i tend to drift, seemed to throw me off (or maybe it kept me on course)
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

An improvement - didn't have to go into my bag to get anything i forgot :)
What would you do differently?:

It was a pretty good transition, having to tie my bike shoes takes some extra time
Bike
  • 28m 16s

  • 10.48 mile/hr
Comments:

A decent time, but it felt slow and choppy. didn't have anyone to follow since i was in such a late wave and it made me realize that i'm not really looking for lines on my own. The last mile or two was much better. Lots of sand and i was braking in it at first. Finally figured out that i need to brake before the sand and role through it. But that only works if you know it's coming up or you can see it - not always the case. Also, fell on the big sandy hill and had to run/walk up it.
What would you do differently?:

Look for worn tracks to get lines better and avoid all the roots. Focus on braking before going into corners, because there was almost always sand on the corners.
Transition 2
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

Decent transition. Got up to speed and running pretty well.
Run
  • 27m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt really loose and flowy in the beginnning, legs got a little heavier in the middle on the longer hills. Felt better after i got past the 2nd mile and up the last hill.
What would you do differently?:

I ran 5 miles yesterday, i don't think it hurt my time at all (i think this was my best run time as well as overall tiem in the race ever) but my legs felt heavier because of it.
Post race
Warm down:

Just showered (covered with sand, not a good feeling) packed the car and went to get a bite to eat.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Legs were heavy on the hills during the bike, didn't get through corners on the bike that great and i'm still a slow runner, but getting faster :)
On the swim, need to continue to work on navigating and on my kick.

Event comments:

This felt kind of hard and slow, but it was my best time this year and probably the best ever since they changed the course (there's about a 1/4 mile run from swim exit to transition that was added a couple of years ago when the transition area was moved)
