Hi all,

I'm putting this out there more to keep me going than anything else but. I've started and stopped MANY times over the last few years. I actually completed two Tri's and was down to 219 pounds (5'-11") now I'm UP to 262 and getting going again. I've set the goal of completing an Ironman no later than the year I turn 50 (2014).

This week I just started running again made a 1/2 mile today; started looking at nutrition and counting my calories. I found zerotoathlete's post on losing a 100 pounds and am following his basic guide lines with the "about half" method (which I did the math on and puts you right into the generally accepted nutritional guidelines); though I haven't been to McDonalds yet .

Today was my first diet experment which I'll fine tune the rest of the week and set the rest of the structure this weekend before we do our weekly grocery shopping. The goal today is three 500 calorie meals and depending on how I do 2 or 3 200 calorie snacks for a daily total of 1900-2100 which I'll have to see but may be a bit on the low side.

Next exercise step is a 5K around Thanksgiving; I could do it earlier but I'm also trying to get my Daughter to run it with me.

Anyway I'm starting and hopefully I'll keep going this time.

George. BTW the name is SUPPOSED to be Buddha but I mis-spelled originally and can't change it now.

Hi Buddah,  zerotoathlete's post got me motivated too.  Sounds like you have a plan and know what to do.  Good luck to you. Smile

LaLa

PS.  Your name Buddah does remind me of "butter" and made me laugh!  Thanks for explaining the typo

Thanks for the encouragement.

I fell off the wagon slightly last night but I'm not too worried about it this is only my first week and I'm still getting used to eating this waythough I have seen by logging in my meals that my fat percentage is way too high; I'll have to work on that next week. My offical weigh-ins are on Monday but so far this week I'm down about a pound and a half.

Getting ready to head out for my last run of this week; I'm up to a complete half my then a 1/4 mile walk and run the rest of the way back. We'll see how far I go today; I'm not pushing too hard just seeing what my body can really do as I ease back into everything.

I feel your pain of giving in. I have been fighting the same 30 or so pounds for 7 years. I get on a roll and then life gets busy with work and kids and I fall back into my old bad habits and have to start all over again.

Never give up, keep workin it!

Woo Hoo!! Official weight this morning is 260.0 for a 3.6 pound loss for last week. I'll beleive it's real loss if I'm down another pound or two next week.

Getting a little more distance each time I go out and run (run?? If anybody is watching the Olympics I feel like that heavy kid from the Nike commerical when I run ). I'm hopeing to hit a full mile by Saturday.

Hang in there Budd. When I started riding last March a 2 mile loop was all I could do. Yesterday evening I rode 30 miles. It will come just never quit. NEVER QUIT.

I was able to finally run a mile on Saturday (My first mile in 7 years ). Today I ran the mile again but this time I brought a watch to see what my time is. So my mile time right now is 12 minutes and 14 seconds; I did that so it would be easier to increase my run without having to know the distances.

So I'm torn my next run is Wednesday, do I just keep the mile for Wednesday or do I add some distance now (today is day 1 of week 3)? I was thinking about running to my normal turn around then going an additional minute before I turned around. This SHOULD give me slightly over a 10% increase for my distance. Then on Thursday backing back down to the mile. Right now I'm only running and those days are Mon, Wed, Thur and Sat. I was going to do the increase this week on Wed and Sat. I'll take all advice I get on this one.

Wait to go man, keep it up. I am definately in the same boat as a chronic yo-yo-yo-yo'r. I like the app MyFitnessPal which works on an ipod touch/iphone. Very easy to use and log meals and exercise, track weight loss...etc.

Keep up the effort man, as for the running, in my experience you have to do what your body tells you. having said that, us bigger folk need to be careful with the joints and ticker IMHO. Just completed my first Half-Marathon on Sunday and I definately didnt get enough miles in prior, my legs were doing some very funny things during the last 10 km and I ended up walking as much as running the last part.

So I am tearing down my run and starting from sctach, going to do a 5Km in Oct, a 10Km in Dec. and then hoping to greatly improve on my 1/2 time of 2:38 and change (firmly BOP) in the spring.

good job, reading your posts here keep me inspried to stay on track as well!

I'm on MyFitnessPal (gr8mom2tac) and love it for keeping track of everything!  If I put my food in as the day goes on, I stay on top of where I'm at for my calorie bank.  And if it's getting low before dinner, I go for a walk/run/etc. to earn more!  It works out well.  I'm down 20 pounds in 2 months and have 45 left to go!~

Thanks justinfss and lauralynne, I'm also on myfitnesspal (GMiller1964) it has really helped me keep track of what I eat. Usually during the week I'll fill in everything I'm planning on eating for the day first thing in the morning; that way I know where I stand right away. Though dinner usually has to wait until later when we figure out what it's going to be.

As of this morning I'm down 15 pounds from 16 July so I'm pretty stoked

I did stop running this week as I was fairly run down, I think a bit too much too soon; was running 4 days a week. I found a couch to half marathon plan that starts off running 3 times a week and gets to the 13.1 on week 24. I'll be starting that Monday morning. The plan right now is to concentrate on the running get through the winter and get the weight down then run for maintenance and work on biking and swimming. We'll see how that works but if the weight continues to come off I'll stay motivated.

Hey Lauralynne thanks for the friend request on myfitnesspal.com I always thought it was rather harsh when you looked at your own profile and it said "Gmiller1964 has no friends" Always gave me a big laugh.

Called the local High School this afternoon. They still keep two lanes in the pool open for lap swimming for district residents. This is at no charge and starts at 6 am and ends generally at 8:15 PM Monday through Friday. I think I'm going to start swimming next week on my off days; now if I can just find someone to show me the proper way to swim instead of trying to teach myself with videos I'll be that much ahead when I trim down.

Going to be a rough day tomorrow; throwing a going away party for one of my neighbors who also happens to be my Margarita drinking buddy. Still with the weight loss so far I'm going to really try to keep it in moderation. We'll see what happens though.

Trust me that's the LAST thing I would do considering the way I eat.
