Norfolk YMCA

Overcast
Total Time = 1h 01m 59s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 9/11
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had a bagel and a banana and a bottle of water about an hour before the first heat was to start. Didn't matter since I was No. 84 out of 116 to start, so I sat around for three hours before starting.
Event warmup:

I swam a couple short laps in a warm-up pool and stretched my calves and thighs. My eyes got a good workout.
Swim
  • 10m
  • 500 yards
  • 02m / 100 yards
Comments:

This is by far my weakest part of any tri. I need to get in the pool a bit more or work with a coach to get faster.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I did everything I could. I'm just slow.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition wasn't timed. Still, it went well. I was into my bike shoes in no time and everything was organized very well. I was happy with this.
Bike
  • 32m
  • 10 miles
  • 18.75 mile/hr
Comments:

I did well on this ride considering the wind was coming strong on the way out. On the way back it was nice, but cross-winds suck in general.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Again this went well but I had to slow myself down to get my shoes tied properly. I need to get some of those zip-tie lace thingies.
Run
  • 00m
  • 2.5 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

THe start was on uneven grass and my calves cramped up. After getting onto the pavement the pain went away and I tried to basically sprint the 2.5 miles. I managed to find a fast pace and finish strong with a full-out sprint in the last 200 yards.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and ate some oranges.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm just not as good at this stuff.

Event comments:

Very well organized, lots of volunteers controlling traffic and directing. An overall good race that I'd recommend for some fun, but not too much exertion.

Tony,

You should have come to Manhattan and/or Topeka for some OWS.  My wife and I did Flint Hills together (her first) and she gave me a fathers' day gift of the Tinman on Saturday (on my own), and it was great too.  The water was warm even in Topeka, but friggin' freezing in the Little Apple.    So, are you gonna do the state games?

Sounds like you're progressing pretty well through your season.  No split times for the run, but it looks like you went pretty fast overall in Norfolk.

I'll bet your eyes were tired from the long wait before you got started. . .
