jford2309 - 2012-09-06 1:38 PM maybe they delay it till 9 AM!
Depends on how late they have permission to close the roads (if at all). If it's raining, I'll be stopping after the swim portion (providing it's not lightning and the swim in cancelled). I have a big A race (Branson 70.3) coming up in 2 weeks (Sept 23rd), and I don't want to risk a bike crash on wet/slick roads....but I do want the open water swim practice.

I sent an email to S2F to ask this very question (how long they would delay).  Response stated if lightning at race start time, they would delay 20 minutes and then check the weather.  If still lightning, delay another 20 minutes.  Said they would delay two times before making the call to go with duathlon or cancel altogether.

Obviously, there are three races that morning with start times ranging from 7-8:45.  I'm guessing once the race starts and you are in the water, it will go on as planned???

They ran Memphis in May two years ago in the rain and storms, no cancellation at all!  I really would hate it to be cancelled. But I am keeping an optimistic mindset, I mean the weatherman is trying to predict the future!

Any more updates? I noticed that the reported water temp this morning was in the low 80's, but I also noticed that this reading is taken downstream in Nashville where the river is much narrower and likely much more shallow.  Readings from Cheatham lake a few miles upstream were around 78 yesterday. With plenty of rain in the region, I think we could still see wetsuit legal temps tomorrow morning.

I suspect, if this race happens and if we even swim, it will not be.  I am bringing my suit in case (always do if there is any possibility), but would be shocked.  If I remember last year, it snuck in as wetsuit legal because not only did we get alot of rain the few days prior, but it was also unseasonably cold a full week prior.  Being that it is 92 degrees out right now, that feels unlikely.  But, gives us one more thing to be hopeful for!!

Just took a gander at weather.com hourly, still pretty high chances

7am - 60%

8am - 50%

9am - 40%

10am - 30%

The kicker (pun intended), wind speeds!  13 - 15MPH.  Something to think about if you have a disc.  I run 808's, gonna get blown around a little.

I liked the race, loved the swim, hatred the bike (rain) and loved the run! I set a new PB at this course for a 70.3!

well that was interesting.  Got to the venue and decided that i was good to go with race wheels so i strapped on my disc and 90mm front. Worst decision ever lol. I have no shame saying i was scared to death on the bike and rode extremely timidly. i was getting blown all over the road and i just knew i was gonna crash. i could never get comfortable in the areo bars because of the wind and i couldn't get above 25-27 on the downhills. I was really close to just pulling over and waiting for a race official to take me back. Glad i didn't. Had a great run and found the podium! Gonna have to do this one again. Pretty fun course if the weather is nice.

Good job everyone.  My hat is off to you.  Those conditions were rough on the bike.  Heck, I was miserable just sitting under the tent!

That was miserable for sure. I feel like I saw FTP kits everywhere too. Hope they all did well.

Great job everybody, ditto on the Bike.  I had 808's which were fine, but still blew me around quite a bit in places.  Cannot even imagine a disc!

As tough as the bike conditions were, the weather gods rewarded us on the run!  I know alot of people PR's at least that portion.  I actually got an overall 10k pr!

Look forward to that bike course when it is dry.

Did anyone else feel lonely out on the bike? There were times when I saw no one in front of me and no one behind me!  I know all the turns were marked, but still I wondered if I missed a turn once or twice!  Thank God for the discarded gel wrappers, I knew I was on the right path!

There was actually one place (just past Mile 20) where the course went straight, but there were people coming from the left.  I got wicked confused because there were no signs and nobody in front or behind, so I literally stopped (it was downhill so I was doing around 23+), turned around, rode back up top to the officer and sked which way.

I was actually going the right way, but would have been wicked bummed to find out I was off course.  Luckily this did not effect my place (still went 1st in AG), but not the best feeling knowing I just wasted 45 seconds while I was still out there.

I'm sure that was confusing. I think what you saw was the half distance racers. I'm pretty sure the last 4 or 5 miles of the half were the same as the last 4 or 5 miles of the Oly.

I was talking to my wife on Sunday about how long ago NashVegas felt, and it was only a week ago when we raced...
