Subject: RE: Event's that SHOULD be in the Olympics I posted this in the other thread about what should NOT be an olympic sport. I am aactually trying to go as a team doc. Its complicated but the first step is you do a 2 week stint at one of the olympic training centers which I did several years ago and I learned a LOT RE the elimination of SB. They can only have X number of athletes at any one olympic games. I think its 3000. ANYWAY. 2 reasons for SB elimination. If you have a team sport (and I am kinf od making up numbers here) where each team has to field like 20 athletes and you need about 10 teams to get a field then that is 200 athletes for only 3 medals. If you drop that sport and insert an individual sport (like some martial arts specialty) then you can give away LOTS of medals.....male and female in each weight class.....for the same 200 athletes. Also because really only the US and Austraila have decent SB programs it is really a 2 country contest which other nations and the IOC is not crazy about. RE BB I think everyone is spot on. It is a more international sport than SB and honestly I like that we send our college athletes rather than pros who are obligated to do their jobs as professional athletes during the olympics for their employeers but some numbers problem as with SB.
