Sunny
Total Time = 3h 02m 56s
Overall Rank = 107/175

Age Group Rank = 7/11
Pre-race routine:

Woke up 6AM, Apple, Banana, Clif Bar, water, Hammer Gel 30 min. before start
Event warmup:

10 min. swim, stretching.
Swim
  • 38m 3s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

Started off good, recovered from kick to the head 100m from the start (breast stroke? really???), did a good job drafting for 2/3 of the time, then spread out a bit. Got water in mouth a few times when sighting
What would you do differently?:

Remember -- do not sight and breathe at the same time, you'll get water every time. Other than that, things went well, considering swimming's my weak point.
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

Woo Hoo! First time I did a mount onto my shoes at this race: turns out I DID have enough time to get into the shoes before the right turn and hills. (31 Overall Ranking, 3d in AG)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 1h 19m 48s
  • 24 miles
  • 18.05 mile/hr
Comments:

Pushed it as hard as I could (Savageman training): Normalized power was 192 (CP 222). Awesome downhills, got up to 39.15 mph at one point.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Great job on the flying dismount (another 1st at Culpeper) -- turns out I didn't need the low gear to get up the hill standing on the shoes. Fumbled a bit getting my running shoes on. Helped to be the first rack in T2. (27th place overall, 1st in AG)
What would you do differently?:

Crouch down a bit when putting on the running shoes instead of standing up, balance was a bit wobbly.
Run
  • 1h 03m
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Hot course once the sun came out: doused myself w/ water at every stop. Drank mostly water (Heed at @ mile 4 instead of messing w/ gel, left a nasty dry mouth feeling). Felt strong at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe push a bit more on the hills?
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around 10-15 minutes, stretch a bit

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No taper - in middle of Savageman HIM training.

Event comments:

Another excellent race by Setup Events. I loved the one girl screaming and cheering everyone on at the top of the first hill on the run course -- her enthusiasm was great. Always love this Culpeper race since I first started tris 4 years ago. I'll definitely be back next year.

Well done on the bike.  Were you also in the 50-55s?  I think I remember you from the run after you passed me.  I tried to hang with you, but couldn't quite keep up.  Stayed with you pretty well on the first lap, but I was totally spent on the 2nd and couldn't focus on much other than shuffling one foot in front of the other.  That run gets me every year.  Sorry I didn't recognize you from your picture or I would have said hi!  Next year!

Just checked out your post from 2011.  You knocked off around 25 mins year over year. IMPRESSIVE.  Especially with no taper. Congrats!
