Boulder, Colorado
United States
World Triathlon Corporation
Sunny
Total Time = 5h 52m 22s
Overall Rank = 604/
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 105/
Pre-race routine:

Typical: wake, shower, breakfast (bagel w/ PB, coffee, banana). Arrive around 5:45 with plenty time to get setup.
Event warmup:

None, figured the race was plenty long enough as is.
Swim
  • 42m 57s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

After having a couple of panic swims earlier this year, I'm still just a little tentative to push it.
What would you do differently?:

I actually spend too much time in the open water. Need to do more intervals in the pool to build speed.
Transition 1
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Missed my running mount and banged the fence pretty hard.
What would you do differently?:

Slow down. No need to save 15 sec on a 5+ hr race.
Bike
  • 2h 52m 53s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.44 mile/hr
Comments:

Legs started to feel a little heavy toward the end.
What would you do differently?:

Probably just need some more time in the saddle.
Transition 2
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

I kept a small cooler with my frozen water bottles. Recommend this!!
Run
  • 2h 11m 14s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

1st lap wasn't too bad but my pace did slow. Lap 2 got really hot. Tried to resist walking but I broke down a couple of times.
What would you do differently?:

More training, nothing else.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, got some food. Everything was going fine till I sat down and the cramps set it.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I got what I earned. My schedule got hectic the last 4 weeks of training and it showed. If you don't put in the time you can't expect the result. Just can't fake 70.3 miles. None the less, I finished and was proud of that.

Event comments:

Wish this race were a few weeks later once things start to cool. Running in the 90's is not fun at all.

Seems this race has almost out grown it's location. My family had to walk from Jay rd. If not for my slow race they would have missed me at the finish.

Good job! Don't feel bad about breaking stride... I was too afraid I would not start again if I did.

It did get hot real quick.

Great race!  Bike was very fast and you'll continue to improve in the swim.  The heat is the toss up between Boulder and Harvest Moon for me.  That's still a good run for those conditions.
