Swim
Comments: I stayed very calm throughout the swim. No worries at all. Just took my time & did my thing. I know I am slow but that is okay with me. Did continue to feel feet/hands, etc the whole time b/c once I got in my own rhythm another wave would catch me & more fast people were trying to pass me. What would you do differently?: I could have sighted a little bit better but did much better than my last tris. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: It starts with a steady climb which made it hard for me to push hard b/c of keeping my HR low. Did well on descents & 2nd part of course b/c it was flatter. What would you do differently?: Not much I could have done differently. Transition 2
Comments: I thought this time was impressive since I peed in the transition area. Thanks to a lovely lady who held my bike for me which I made my pit-stop. Run
Comments: Had to walk up hills to keep HR low. THere were lots of hills in beginning & then flattened out. Great & plenty of aid stations that helped to keep me cool. Filled my water bottle every station with ice & water & then a cup of ice down my sports bra for most aid station. I made a lot of noise while running but I was cool. What would you do differently?: Put sunscreen on more (if there was any available which I didn't see). Drank a little bit less b/c I so wanted cold water but my belly was so full. THat is one reason why I had to stop on flatter part of race was b/c I thought I was going to throw up. Just wish I could have run my regular 10-min/pace which would have put on my goal of overall time. Oh well. I felt better this way. Post race
Warm down: For some reason I got teary-eyed after I saw my sissy & boyfriend. I wasn't sad but more elated that I was done! They got me into the shade right away & let me cool off. THen we walked to the expo & got pizza/chips/chocolate milk/white soda. It was heavenly!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Keeping my HR below 168. 90 degrees & full sun!!!! Stayed in Boulder the night before so it didn't have to be such an early morning. Had an awesome time on Pearl St & ate a delicious meal @ Lazy Dog! I will be going back there again.
Up @ 4:30 & ready to go by 5:20. We were lucky to be entering into the Res from the East (traffic from the South was horrendous). Got in there with plenty of time! No rushing around.
GOAL: Finish this 70.3 with a smile on my face & as preparation for IMWI. I had to keep my HR<168 for the race which prevented me from going faster on the bike/run.
I actually swam a little before this race which I usually don't do. I had a new wetsuit so I wanted to see if it was going to choke me!? Luckily it didn't so I was good to go.
