I live in los angeles and the weather has been very hot...i hate training in the heat. I've been going to the beach areas more since its like almost 25 degrees cooler but i cant go all the time. What do you guys do when it gets super hot? Just keep training like normal? Train at night? Any suggestions?

I train very early in the morning or at night. Sometimes I have to be in the heat though. I just have to train at a slower pace and drink plenty of liquids.

Avoiding the heat is one of the reasons that I try to train in the early morning.

In extreme heat you need to slow your pace.  I watch my heart rate and if it starts to spike I slow down, or in some cases just walk home.

Be careful and don't overdo it.

I've been training at night, but early morning works too.

Some extra precautions I take in the dark: light/reflective clothing, headlamp/flashlight/blinky lights, minimal distractions (like ear buds), wear a Road ID, let people know your route and expected time of arrival. Still have to hydrate, so need to think about re-filling water and what places will be open very early or very late to do so.

Last, a product like cool wings or arm coolers make a difference for some. Keeping them wet helps me.

I live up in the high desert, so this time of year if you don't like training in the heat, there aren't too many times of the day ideal for training.  Fortunately, I love training in the heat.  It slows you down a bit, but when you get a chance to get out of the heat you can fly.  Plus it's awesome to sweat to the point you look like you're melting.

Ugh, I cut my long training on Saturday short (nixed the run after half a mile in.), skipped Sunday, and today I stuck with the gym and pool workout.  Tomorrow just a short run outside, and we'll see about Wednesday...

I just deal with it b/c, come marathon time in the fall, my body is stronger from training in the heat & racing in cool weather. Eh, maybe I'm exaggerating.

Suffer at first. Then adapt to it. Not really a time of day that I can escape it. Early morning the humidity is right at 100%(dew point) so it may be 80 at 6am, the index is still into the 90's. Pay attention to your heart rate, as there are very real medical dangers if you push too hard in the heat.
