Total Time = 4h 20m 13s
Overall Rank = 127/127
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 7/7
Pre-race routine:

Up early to eat breakfast - on the road by 6:15 (Needed to park, unload and set up transition before 7am)
Event warmup:

Wandering around, staring at the fog, little bit of swimming - some stretching. But they kept announcing delays and trying to explain the swim course without being able to see the bouys....
Swim
  • 35m 21s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 09s / 100 yards
Comments:

This course was complicated to picture - and I wasn't the only one confused. The problem was thick fog and the inability to visualize the course. They delayed the race until the first bouy was visible and the sheriff confirmed that the second bouy was visible from the first. We had to take their word on it. I'm accustomed to sighting off of shore markers (beyond bouys) but that wasn't possible so my sighting was utter crap. This was demoralizing and shows in my times. I had to stop mutlitple times between each bouy to try and see where I was going. I wasn't alone though.
What would you do differently?:

clear goggles (I had blue). This was the only leg I had trained sufficiently for so I was really disappointed in my performance.
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

I ended up sitting down to get my suit all the way off. I was frustrated with my swim and let it get to me.
Bike
  • 2h 02m 16s
  • 28 miles
  • 13.74 mile/hr
Comments:

ow. Ow. OW.
I was the most undertrained for this leg and it showed. Life just got in the way. My longest ride before this race was 13 miles. So 28 miles was a little ambitious. But I wasn't last...yet.
What would you do differently?:

Train. I say that over and over again. I keep biting off more than I can chew both in traing and race distances. But I'm an optimist!
Transition 2
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

I was whooped. It was hot. I was already sunburned and knew I had another long run to go. mental attitude was poor.
Run
  • 1h 37m 25s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 15m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I can run 6 miles - I know I can. I've done it. In about 1:26 or so. But adding it onto the end of a tri, I just wanted to quit. My legs hurt from the effort on the bike. And it was hot. I'm a Seattlite - anything over 75 and I feel like I'm on the surface of the sun. It was approx. 85 - I was at the center of the sun. I wanted to quit after the first loop. And with every step of the second. But, with my teen son's encouragement, I finished. Dead last. But DFL>DNS
What would you do differently?:

so's so much...
Post race
Warm down:

laid on the ground, drank water, tried to visualize ice.

Event comments:

The volunteers stayed late to let me (and a couple others) finish. I really appreciated that. There was absolutely nothing else left - and everyone had gone home. There's nothing the race org could do about that. I need to get faster and 'cash in' on post race events!

Good job! It was an interesting race indeed. It was my first race where multiple races were occurring at the same time. Not sure I like the concept to be honest. And either the sprinters ate all the good post race treats or there wasn't much to begin with. All they had when I finished was water, banana, and some scary looking muffins. The Tiger Tri up in Colville was a far better event and it definitely deserves more attendees next year.

I didn't like the multiple races format either - to the point that I think I'll avoid it next time unfortunately.  I'll have to look up the Tiger Tri, I'm always looking for new races!
