yes you read that right.  ok--it wasn't a manhole it was a water main cover but it ate my leg up to the knee anyway.  road rash up the shin and knee cap to boot.  rolled around on the floor waffling between cursing the pain and laughing at myself for the looney toons moment.   I'd have been ILL if I'd really hurt myself, but i'll live.

Swimming, biking, or running?  (Very different accidents.  All funny in a sick way.  Glad you are OK.)

would rather have this road rash than from a bike wreck! I've been lucky on that front (knock wood). I suspect a serious crash would probably end my biking career and bravado.

Glad you are okay!  But let's not discuss road rash, shall we?  I got pushed off the road while cycling today by a car I am going to assume was oblivious/ignorant.  My son was drafting off me and so went flying over me as I wiped out spectacularly on hitting gravel roadside, all in all not a pleasant experience, and too busy making sure we were both ok to get a license plate. Luckily just road rash and bruises, and a hilarious story to tell forever on my son about the day he ran me over... (though tomorrow I am very much afraid I feel much more like I impacted the ground at the 25.4mph my Garmin says I was going. )

I've done it too - running at dusk with my dog. He avoided it. I stepped right in. Some cuts, bruises, and a little damage to the ego...

Glad you're ok!

I'm glad you have an upbeat attitude about it.  I would have been cursing to no end.

Aren't manholes supposed to have manhole covers?  I don't know that I have ever seen one open that wasn't all taped off with people working standing around it.

sadly no you=tube/vido coverage--although I considered asking the church across the street if their security camera's caught it--might be good for some AFV cash.  had that discussion with a buddy today about how our first reaction thanks to AFV is to laugh at someone falling--then check to see if their ok--then continue laughing if they are.

it was not open, the cap was on, but not properly--I hit the cap at full stride and it rolled over and dumped me through the hole.

went to the doc today and cleared no major injuries. road rash, bruised knee cap and ego and some ligament irritation from the swelling.  a couple days rest and advil.  hopefully that'll do the trick.

this was just the capstone to a season of setbacks and frustrations--can't help but laugh about it. time to hit the reset button and hope 2013 is a better season for me.

the upside is i realized on this run that I have actually started to somewhat enjoy running (always my most loathed component). now it's just the least favorite of the three, no longer loathed. maybe someday I'll really like it.

Oh no!  I'm REALLY glad you're OK but but I have to say I laughed out loud  Only because once my husband ran into a fire hydrant.  Really banged up his leg...but it was really funny after the fact!

Funny in retrospect but it could have been pretty bad - fractured femur, destroyed knee, etc.  Glad you are OK.
