Dan, your party sounds fun. I need to come to this one since I missed the last one. Sun or Mon is OK with me, but I think most of the out of towners will be hitting the road by Monday.

You're probably right.  Hummm...I'm trying to decide if there would be better turnout on Sunday or not.  Must talk to the boss (Nancy) about this.

I'm probably in for the swim.

Dan, I'm in for either Sat or Mon.  Just have to drive back to Richmond, so I'll be staying in Va Beach for awhile on Monday.

It's all about having fun, and this is a great race to do just that. Enjoy the crowds, the bands and your fellow BT'rs.

Hi all-

Sorry I'm a bit late getting on this thread. I'm definitely running the 1/2. Not sure what the decision was about an OW swim but the bay is currently infested with jellyfish so I suggest swimming at the ocean front instead...plus it's much closer to the convention center.  Regardless, everyone should check out the new Final Kick shop down by the bay...it's awesome.

My bib# is 1078 and I'm up in corral 1.  Hope I can still do that position justice...I registered before the accident and predicted a 1:18 but I'd be satisfied with 1:25 at this point.

I agree with Joel! The jellyfish are fierce in the bay...I know first hand since I walk on the beach by the bay several times a week (I live just a few houses from walking onto the beach at the bay).

I also totally agree with him that you should check out the new Final Kick store if you have a chance. I finally did last weekend & it's great!

Probably no need for me to mention my corral #...I'm sure I'm behind all of your corrals since I guestimated my time to be 2 hours 37 minutes. =)

Has anyone thought about where we could try to meet up just to meet each other in person? I haven't had a chance to go back & read all the posts in the last week or week 1/2.

I can't believe it's only 11 days away! I'm starting to get a bit nervous since it's my first race other than a 5k. I know it'll be fun no matter what! =)

Have a great day everyone!!
Dawn

Ok- since the bay is out due to the overtaking of jellyfish, do any of ya'll locals have a better swim place in mind?

Anywhere along the oceanfront would work fine but parking will probably be tough to come by at the south end where all the hotels and restuarants are.  We might try for something up around 70-80th street.  It's a residential area with public access every block or so.  There isn't any particular landmark that I can think of off the top of my head for a meeting spot though.

For meeting after the race, the put up signs on the beach, each with a letter of the alphabet so people can find their friends and family...we could meet at the "B".

I think meeting up at B for post race is a great idea!

Many of us are coming in friday night or saturday morning...Janelle talked about picking a time to go to expo then the bike shop or something...I may be getting old. I already sent her my cell phone.

If anyone wants my cell, PM me and I will give it to you. I will have Steph (watergirl) with me...If we meet at expo we could just drive together over for the OW swim together right? We are staying at Coloniel Inn within a mile of race site if we want to meet there for OW ..another option...

oh my I can't wait!!! I am doing a 12 mile...sloooowww friday (I promise Janelle!)

who said 1:30...uh ok, I will be at the turnaround then so you are in charge of keepign the beer cold!

That sounds like a good idea.  Maybe we could plan on meeting on the corner of one of those streets or something if there aren't any lanmarks?  Are there places for us to park?

Also, last year I remember that the letter "B" was the farthest letter away form the finish.  Not a big deal, but it was tough walking in the sand for that long after running 13.1 miles.  I think it took me forever to get to the letter "B".  But not a lot of people were waiting around near that letter so it made things easier.  But the good thing is that it was relatively close to the band on stage- not too close that it was insanely loud, but close enough to hear the music and very close to the beer stand

10 days, right?! Meeting at a specific place for the OWS sounds great, Janelle. There will probably be a lot of people wandering around looking lost, adding to the confusion. Or we could all just write a big BT on our foreheads.

We could always meet up somewhere in parking lot or something and then carvan to the swim spot.  I dunno- whichever is easier.  I was looking at a map and 10 or 80th street seems out there.  Is it really that far out there Joel or just appears to be?

If most everyone from out of town is staying along the oceanfront, it probably is easiest to swim there.  80th street is definitely a drive from the boardwalk hotels.

I am going to suggest we all meet at the 25th Street lifeguard stand at 9 am on Saturday.  We should be able to swim from there.  Unless somebody knows something I don't, this makes the most sense for out of towners. Us locals can figure out where to park.

For anyone that wants to go to Final Kick after the swim, I am willing to carpool.

Anyone who needs a place to park can park around my house. The green house on the corner of Deleware Ave. and Cypress Ave. 1/2 the people that live on my block will be running the race.

BEER!!

Anyone looking for a cold beer on the course should pay special attention around 9th street.  There are a few out of town hashers who are renting a condo and will be on the course providing alternative hydration choices.  There will probably be a few local hashers hanging out there as well but I don't think it'll be the production we had last year.

Just some Info about the Party at my house for anyone intersted.

So..it's going to be Monday (9/4) around 4 PM. It will be a come, eat, talk, hang out and leave kinda thing. Kids are invited as well as anyone that remotely might have a connection to BT.

If you'd like to bring something, dessert is always good. or a side dish. I will be making burgers, hot dogs and maybe some random other items like shrimp and stuff. I will also provide some beverage choices of the adult and kid friendly variety.

As always, All I ask is that you bring a good attitude and I will never refuse a set of Zipp's as a Host/Birthday gift.

My address: 323 52nd St. Newport News, Va 23607

757-223-4703 (Home)

404-580-5724 (Cell)

Easiest way from Va Beach:

Go I-264 West to I-64 West.  Go through the HRBT to I-664 South.

Take Exit #5 and get in the right lane.

60 West bound to 52nd St.

White house on the right with an American Flag out front.

Just find a place to park on the street and come on in!! Food will probably start around 5 PM.

Let me know if you plan on attending so I can get the correct number of burgers, etc.

We actually cross 9th street 3 times.  First between miles 1 & 2, then again just after mile 9, and finally just before mile 13 on the boardwalk.  I'm going to assume the beer will be at the9 mile point but wouldn't be surprised if it were just after mile 1.  Just keep your eyes open.
