Pre-race routine:

Drove down at 5 am the morning of the race. This is only a "practice" race, no official splits, just to see where I am.
Event warmup:

Short swim
Swim
  • 15m 1s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got off to a great start in the lead pack. Had someone drafting off my left side. About 3/4 of the way to the first buoy I inhaled a large amount of water, had to stop then roll over on my back to regroup. Backstroked for 10 seconds or so and was back on my way but lost my rhythm. Lost the lead pack but don't think I was passed. Did lots of passing of earlier waves. Overall a good swim but probably could have been better
What would you do differently?:

Not inhale the water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 21s
Comments:

T1 was fine, nothing to write home about. Happy about bike mounting!!
What would you do differently?:

Would like to learn to mount bike with shoes attached.
Bike
  • 51m 2s
  • 16 miles
  • 18.81 mile/hr
Comments:

1st race with aerobars, I was very comfortable and passed lots of people. Was only passed by 4 people total. Felt like a good ride, thought my time would be faster. Had a headwind coming back.
What would you do differently?:

Ride faster
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

No problem here
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 27m 41s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't feel like I was shuffling along but it looks like I was.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster
Post race
Warm down:

walk,water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I don't know, I'm working hard on my run but don't seem to making much in the way of progress. Perhaps I need to put more energy into swim and bike, back off a little on the run and accept it for what it is.

Event comments:

I did the best I could and that's all I can expect from myself. I thought I was better prepared than I appeared to be but it offers me a starting point to work towards where I want to be for the next one.
