Subject: Guitarists of BT - please help!!!

Ok - here's the deal.  My sister is having a medium-sized, casual outdoor wedding.  I am playing guitar in her ceremony.  She is super laid back (think anti-bridezilla) about the whole thing and wants me to decide what to play.  I think I have figured out what I'm playing during the processional, but I am completely blanking when it comes to the recessional.

I have been playing for many years, but at a rather sporadic, intermediate level.  I won't impress any real musicians in the crowd, but I have a few weeks to learn a not-too-difficult song and make it sound ok.  I am the only "musician" in the ceremony and I will just be playing, not singing.

So, any ideas for a recessional song?  There isn't a wedding party (which is one reason why I ended up in this role) so I imagine the recessional will be very short and I will probably only end up doing part of the song.  I am hoping to find something celebratory and/or humorous that will be fairly recognizable.

Also, I don't play in bands or do gigs or anything like that, so any advice on playing in a situation like this is welcome!!  I do plan on practicing my songs in front of others before the ceremony.

How old is the bride and what type of music?  What are you playing for processional?

Acoustic or electric?

Go with Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight". For a short recessional just one verse would work and it is very recognizable. As a plus it is easy to play.

Set up a stuffed Kermit next to you and play "Rainbow Connection".

I just did the same for my sister's wedding in June. I wrote a piece for the processional. For the recessional the groomsmen and I sang and played Afternoon Delight, as it was an afternoon wedding. Was hilarious and a big hit!

My go-to for this sort of thing is "Joyful Joyful" by Brooks Williams. It's a samba arrangement of Ode To Joy that always goes over.

I had small (23 guests) and somewhat casual wedding a few months ago. My brother played the processional and recessional on guitar and also was the officiant. I walked in to "Here Comes the Sun" and we walked out to "All You Need is Love." Both songs were super short. He just cut them when it felt right. He actually also played our first dance. I made him work for his meal.

You can never go wrong with "Eruption" by Eddie VanHalen....

O.K.  Yes that was a joke, but this is not.  I once photographed a wedding that only had AC/DC music.

And if you don't like the person they are marrying, you can do "Surfing with the Alien" by Joe Satriani.   This list can go on and on.

My college roommate and I used to dance to "you shook me all night long" during study breaks....yet at her wedding the DJ refused to play it until the groom "convinced" him to put it in.
