Subject: Patriot's Half?

Hey all,

Coming up from NC to do the Patriot's Half in a couple weeks. Can anybody give me some insight on the currents in the James River? I've done several mile+ OWS, but all in lakes with no currents/waves. Last time I crossed on the ferry, back in April, it looked like the ocean!

And do you know if there are changing tents? I'm really not digging the idea of running in sweaty bike shorts. I'm BOP anyway, so would prefer to be BOP and comfortable.

Thanks!

I ran the sprint last year. The James is tidal, so it's all a matter of what time of day the tides will be running. I don't remember it being very strong. As for changing tents, I don't remember ever seeing such a thing, but I never looked, either.

Doing the sprint.

Minimal current in the riiver most of the time, will depend on how much rain we get closer to the race.

No changing tents.

Everything the other two have said but also there is quite a jog into T1 depending on the swim direction you may want to bring some throw down foot protection after the swim one of the north exit is really rooted and gravelly.

Cool. Thanks everybody! You've allayed my major fear for the race - as long as there are no hurricanes between now and then!

Most of the time setup work with the tide. I have done the half twice and never had an issue with the swim other than me being slow. Most of the issue has been during the sprint. Good luck! It's a great race!
