Total Time = 1h 22m 11s
Overall Rank = 118/214
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 15/20
Pre-race routine:

Got up after S&I's wedding. Very tired. Ate luna bar and coffee. Loaded up and went with Rebecca to the race. Set up transition.
Event warmup:

Jog around with Elizabeth after Rebecca and Judith were off. Then waiting for my wave I had to go to the bathroom so much cause I was nervous, so I ran up and down the hill to the potty a few times. Swam around in the water a bit.
Swim
  • 10m 48s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 42s / 100 meters
Comments:

Even though I was nearly last, I improved my swim time by 4 minutes. I think the actual coast to coast time was about 10 min without the run up the hill which was included in the swim time. I did all free, and breathing was pretty good. My wave swam in a pack which was frustrating, I couldn't really get going.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. Practice sprints to pass people.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

No wetsuit really improved the time. I got to get out and on my bike before the people who swam faster than me cause they had to peel of their wetsuits. I think I'll do this more often temperature permitting. Had a great position near the bike out...not even possible to run with the bike it was so close :)
Bike
  • 36m 18s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.18 mile/hr
Comments:

All I have to say is YEAH! I can't believe I averaged 18mph. That was awesome! I was trying to keep up with this girl in the beginning...she was going fast, but challenging me. Then I passed her, then she passed me, but finally...I passed her and she never caught up. I knew this was the event for me to speed on, so I went for it.
What would you do differently?:

Go even faster!
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

Pretty fast. Again the proximity to the bike in was good and helped get rid of the akwardness of running with the bike. I think I was pretty much in and out.
Run
  • 31m 50s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 12m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Calves started to cramp at the beginning. I think I must have stopped to strech 3 times. After gu, they were ok. Took probably at least half the route to get some rhythm and pick up speed.
What would you do differently?:

Get rid of my shin splints, train for the run (my running has been very sporadic due to the shin splits). I need to experiment more with fuel to minimize cramping. Train train train!
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, talk, massage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training for run. Crowded swimming. Bike was good.

Event comments:

Great entry level race. I feel like a snob saying that since it was my first race last year. But having done larger races, I see it as beginner friendly. I'm so proud to have shaved 10 min off my time from last year! Maybe someday I can place at this race!
