I'm so hard on myself looking back at it..My first sprint tri was in June 2008...I was 38 years old..750 meter swim, 15 mile bike, 5K...took me 2:51. Did it again this year and it took me 1:45. Glad I've improved, but still hoping to get faster!

My first race was a HIM in Santa Cruz and I went 5:01. Other then a small mechanical, I couldn't have asked for a better first race.

My first was Shelbyville #4 - Sprint Tri - 400m/16mi/5k - did it in 1:27.

VERY hilly (to me) course. Hopefully, it won't seem so bad next year.

1:27 for a sprint but it was kind of random distances. Supposedly a 350m swim, 24 km bike (but that was the longest 24 km of my life), of which about 5  km was offroad, mostly over sand dunes, and a 5 km run on the beach. The people who put it on are known for random distances. I was 2nd woman and something like 11th or 12th overall (out of maybe 60 people). I guess I did better than I had a right to as a beginner, because conditions were pretty tough, everyone had to ride mountain bikes, and the bike leg was mostly uphill (long looping climb on the road and short, off-road descent) which kept the speed demons and aero nuts under control a bit.

2007, 60/300 on a "try this tri" super-sprint. First race was a 10k a few weeks earlier with a speed 59:30 time. Progress is slow and steady... emphasis on the slow.

Not my first tri, but the second one I did, and I've done that same one each year for 3 years. So, here's the breakdown of my progress. (Not sure why it gives that long block of blank space.) Targeting this one once again on Sept. 9th.

My first was a Sprint last year.  600 meter OWS swim, 12 mile bike, 5K:  1:27.  I was DFL in the swim and I almost drown.  I am much better now and have since done two Olys and will be doing my first HIM in a couple of weeks.  Glutton for punishment.  Love the sport.

It sounds like there are a lot more people in the majority of everyone else's races. Little bit jealous, I only had 86 in my first sprint and finished 52nd.

I much prefer races with more people in them.
