Ripe/brownish bananas have already turned themselves into sugar, so they give your body instant energy.

light yogurt and a little water 20-30 min prior works great for me.  I always try to eat some carbs or at least drink some g'ade within 10-20 min after. bananas are good too.

Hey, after some experimentation I've found that drinking is just easiest for me first thing in the morning. But I tried the fig newtons as an apres-swim meal, and they worked really well.
