What kind of bike do you ride in triathlons?

Many thanks...

Just got back into it.  Figured a road bike (no aerobars) would be best as that was what I rode most, other than a mountain bike.  If I'm still doing triathlons, and training enough, in a year or so I may get a triathlon bike.

Right now, working on the engine is the most important part.  I'll worry about a better bike after I'm in shape to make use of it.

I will be riding a roadie without aerobars. Still in training for my first tri. Lots of miles so far but no race. Figured I'd wait and see how I do then invest in the future in a tri bike.

Road bike clip on aero bars.  Rewarding myself after I lose another 50 pounds with a TT bike....

Mid 80's road bike with clip ons mainly to have another position to save hands and wrists from fatigue.

I voted tri bike, but it actually depends on the race... For most races, tri bike with deep front and disc rear. I do have a few races that I actually do on my road bike (wirhou areo bars) and deep front/rear, due to climbing and technical nature of the race.

I started off riding a borrowed road bike, then bought my own road bike and added aerobars.  Last year, at the end of my season, I bought a new TT bike (Cervelo P4) from a Pro who switched sponsors.  I really liked my road bike but there is no comparison with my TT bike.

Thank you all very much for your replies. As always, they are helpful.

In return, a photo of the late Neal Armstrong and X-15 #1, a Mach 5.5 aircraft he flew to over 200,000 feet in 1960:

I started with a road bike, then put clip on aero's on it for a few seasons. Then I bought a nice P3 Cervelo and loooved it. With IM training on long rides the roadie just made more sense. Nowadays i've sold the P3 and ride my roadie for everything and love it.

Nice.  I have a 2009 Specialized Allez (steel) with Profile Design clip on aeros and love it.  Looking to upgrade next spring to a TT bike.  Maybe staying in the Specialized family, not sure though.

In my first six triathlons I rode my Giant road bike, the last four with aerobars. In eight weeks I will ride my first race on my new Cervelo P2. I can't wait!!!

This year I rode my Roadie (SuperSix) in four Tris.  I plan on getting clip-ons this winter and practice for next season.

That's what I'm riding, a Giant TCR C3 with aerobars.  But I'd love to get a tri bike.  Maybe next year.  That reminds me, I'm going to raise my seat a bit and bring it forward a bit to open my hip angle up a little more.  Hopefully I'll get a fit with my new tri-bike.
