What I mean is, I'm very proud of my swim and bike times, but my run times are terrible, even when I'm running.

I did a tri on Saturday, and here's the breakdown...

Out of 700 people my swim time was 240th

Out of 700 people my bike time was 242nd

Out of 700 people, My bike time was 690th....  If I could only run, I would be a strong middle of the pack racer  !!

What was your overall place?

The bike kills me.  What I found, is that my place in the bike is close to my overall place.

It also depends based on overall and division.  I'm usually top 3 in swim and run in my division, and easily right in the middle for the bike.  My swim and run save me enough to win or podium in Clyde.

My overall place was 625 out of  699.

In my AG there were 35 participants.  I was 17th on the swim, 18th on the bike and 33rd on the run..

I really had fun on this race, and I went into it after not working out for two weeks, so I know my swim and bike could have been slightly better but that run time kills me.  15 minute miles.. Sheesh! I am going to spend the winter learning how to run and learning how to eat....  Look out next year, here I come!

run might be killing you or it could even be the bike or the swim.  if you come off the bike completely exhausted of course you will have a bad run.

For me its the bike.  I am pretty constant on the run but the Bike its my x factor.  Though if you look my overall placed I am pretty consistent.  I naturally get slower as a race goes on.

Overall 2900

Swim 2722

Bike 2852

Run 2913

My race killer will always be the swim.

When I was a kid, my family never belonged to a pool and I never joined a swim team... so I never learned the proper technique for swimming. Couple that with my 6' frame of 215lbs lean muscle mass (well, except for the belly - mmmm beer) that makes me ride low in the water... I will always be slow.

I always finish close to top 1/3 on run, top 1/3 to middle of the pack on bike [this depends entirely on how hard I feel like pushing the bike... which lately I have decided to save it for the run], and bottom 1/3 on the swim.

I have just come to accept the fact that I will be a slow swimmer and relax for the extra time it takes to swim whatever the distance and just kick arse on the run.

My extra 20-30 lbs!!  But seriously, for me, the run totally kills my time and it gets frustrating.  The last tri I did I counted the people who passed me on the run, simply because I was curious because I always get passed like mad but rarely pass anyone on the run.  I stopped when I hit 30, although I do think the total was right around there.  30 people.  That's a lot, especially for a smaller race, ~245 people.  Well, some of them may have been duathletes, which was going on at the same time.  Although I could speed up my swim, too.  Bike is by far my strongest discipline.

I just need to run more.  The race I mentioned in this thread is one where I was just doing it to enjoy it.  I hadn't exercised in two weeks because I did a century ride three weeks before this race.  I didn't push the swim or the bike, so I know i was "Fresh" for the run.  For that matter, I didn't push the run either. I just ran at a pace where I wasn't winded and my shins didn't hurt...

I wish I could pick only one event.  But if I had to I'd say biking.  But more specifically lack of bike training.  Even for the sprint distance, I suck at biking.  And biking kills my legs so it kills my run.

Definitely the run.  Or cramping up... in general.

Unfortunately for me, really all I can do is swim. That will make the last 2/3 of my upcoming first tri rather interesting!

Run, hands down. I'm working hard on it, though, so perhaps next year it will only be bad instead of dismal.

This is me too as an Athena at my last tri I was 1st in swim and bike 4th on the run, 3rd place. I am a very slow runner.

This is me too.  I've been working hard on the bike and run for the last few years though, and I'm turning to be a back of middle of pack runner and cyclist now.  With being a FOP swimmer (at least with the females), I'm finally finishing MOP in tris.

Funny, in tris I've always been a BOP runner, but at the same pace in running races, I'm decidedly MOP.  Weird.  (I'm a 2:00 HM and 25 min 5Ker - Triathletes are genearlly AWESOME runners.

It's definitely the run that gets me. I can swim decently meaning I come out of the water feeling pretty good. And, to my surprise, I've discovered that I'm actually pretty good on the bike (1st out of 11 women in my last tri - yep small tri). Then I proceed to lose it on the run.

(A bit embarrassed to admit.. Embarassed) In my case it's probably not really caring about my time. I know that I should and I know that I should be working to get faster but I just don't ever see myself on the podium or winning and honestly I just don't care that much. As long as I get the medal and the tshirt I'm happy! Overall I'm not entirely sure where I'm slowest. I did my first tri Saturday and was significantly slower than normal on the swim but it was deliberate since I'd never had to pace myself through a whole tri before. I'm pretty average all around and placed low overall but my times were a bit like what I expected. Maybe one day I'll have a breakthrough in 2/3 phases and then I'll be able to see where I really struggle!
