This seems to be the case with everyone that I know that is involved in training for a tri.  My friends that are married or coupled up are in a situation where they both do tris.  It is very frustrating for us single folks.  My problem is that people want to get together so late...and I know I have to get up to train the next day.  The sacrafices outweigh the drama in my book though.  I would much rather be single and pursuing my goals than dealing with an unsupportive person causing additional stress to my already hectic life!  Good luck!

Agree with Rbond.  I cancelled 2 dates this weekend at the last minute because of training running late/being too tired to get dressed.

Girlfriend said I needed to choose her or the bike.

I'm surprised they never see the answer to this before asking.

They don't read The Rules (#11).

Yeah, I can see how training can take a toll on a relationship if not properly balanced. I'm lucky enough to train with my wife but if at any time training becomes more important than our relationship, things will have to change in favor of a healthy relationship.  Not because I have to, but because that's what I value.

I think about this verse a lot:
"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

My wife and I are closer than ever due in a great part to triathlon.

We both train a lot and we do some of it together.

Same here. My wife and I call them "date mornings". Seems it's the only quality time we get to spend together these days. It's definitely a win-win.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones; a year ago my wife (then fiancee') decided to get off the couch and get healthy. We started couch to 5K, got our road bikes back out and in January joined a local Community Center that had a pool. All of a sudden we were training for a triathlon! Now we are both down 50 pounds, have done two tri's so far and love being able to train together.

It's good for me that my wife is the one who got me into triathlon.  She still trains more hours than I do, though I race more.  It also helps that she's a coach (soon to be Lvl 2!  I'm proud) and I get awesome coaching when I'm in the mood to follow a plan.  Though I'm more in it for fun.  Funny thing is. . .we rarely train together as we're different speeds (I'm quicker on the bike and run.)  We'll do long group rides together, computrainer rides together and open water swims (where she circles around me like a shark.)  But that's pretty much it.  Either way. . .it works for us.

Super understanding husband thank goodness especially now training for my first IM in March!  We have a 7 year old daughter and he is the 80% parent I'm the 20%!  Still I give quality over quantity!

When I signed up for the IM we had a long discussion and he is so darned proud of his hot wife - he tells everyone what I do and what good shape I'm in so that's good.

My daughter loves taking my medals to show and tell and always tells her Phys Ed teacher what i'm doing!  He runs a tri-kids group so she can't wait til next year to get into it.

I am lucky that he is so understanding - he realises what this all means to me.  If he wasn't so supportive and understanding - I would still be doing it and we would both be resentful and going down a very different path.
