Subject: Pregnant and renting a wetsuit?

I don't need any advice on whether or not to do the tri. It's been approved by my doctor. I am not going to race it but just participate and I'm ok with coming in last this time.

I will be about 14 weeks which some of the women will understand that while I won't look pregnant, my size will be different due to a slight weight weight gain and probably bloating.  So my old wetsuit is probably not going to fit.

I have never rented a wet suit before and I'm guessing my size will vary until that point. Any suggestions on renting a wetsuit that will fit correctly?

Thanks.

A lot of races (bigger ones especially) will have on site rentals. If that's an option, then go and try a few on to be sure which you need. Otherwise, you are probably going to be taking a shot in the dark. If you can find a company that runs a little bigger in sizes than what you currently have, that might be a good "guess." (just order the same size)

I am not proud of this, but I am still wearing a wet suit that I wore when I was about 15 pounds lighter.  Since the majority of your extra girth will be in your tummy, you will probably be fine with your normal size.  Although, I think ordering just one size up would be adequate.  The sizes don't vary SO much that a little extra room will be a problem. especially if you think you'll be more than 10-15lb heavier.  I don't think you'll fill up with water and sink   I am just speculating, of course, but I have owned and rented several wetsuits over time.

Thanks. I will try on the one I have again now and closer to time. I'd hope that I won't be 10-15 lbs heaver that early! I just already feel huge so I was afraid to try it on.

At 14 weeks, I wasn't any heavier and was barely showing (it was my first pregnancy).  I did a tri (relay portion - run only) and ran in my normal running clothes.  Of course, I had hyperemesis and I hope that you do not have that experience.  I think there is a good chance that you'll be able to wear your own wetsuit.

It's my fourth. I don't think I'll be showing but I'm already in looser clothing from the um side effects and I will definitely look like I'm gaining weight but as soon as I get a chance I'll try on my wetsuit and see if I can possibly get by with it.

I did a tri three months post partum; I was probably bigger then than when I was 14 weeks pregnant--none of my pants buttoned by several inches and my was gigantic. I wore the same old wetsuit I used when I was a skinny racer girl. Its amazing what they will fit over!!
