Interesting, the Kansas 5i50 is the same day as KU graduation, so there are no hotel rooms in Lawrence that weekend.

Someone probably should have checked that out before setting up the race.

I know traveling with families can make the logistics tough, but one of my favorite parts of IMKS is camping at the race site. You get the best parking, you can sleep a little longer, and your friends and family have a place to hang out for the day. Plus it only costs about $15.

After the KS 70.3 this year, my family decided we should rent an RV and get a camp spot for next year.  Might have to also do it for the 5150 weekend.

Yeah, there is a map on the parks page. There are spots designated for tents and ones with RV hook ups. On the map you can see what spots are available for your dates.

Looks like Rev3 is going to add Branson to their schedule. So it's not exactly a KC area race but a fun and challenging one! Last year it was mid September so not sure what Rev3 will do.

I saw Brandon yesterday at Lifetime. I am back on the wagon and feel so liberated with my shorter distance plan for 2013. What are you doing???

This is a great forum...one of my friends had posted a link re: all the talk about what was going on with Kansas City Tri. For two early races in the season @ Emporia and Leavenworth, they have the 2013 active.com pages but they say registration closed. I'm ready to sign up!!!

If you like to travel the Door County Wisconcin triathlon is a blast. Sprint on Saturday and 70.3 on Sunday. Limit of 1000 per race and sells out very year. Swim in Lake Michigan, basically flat bike, the sprint run is flat, but the 70.3 run has two killer hills.http://www.doorcountytriathlon.com/

Yep, just saw that.  Dont know why Sandy thought that was a good idea.  That being said, I will probably do KC just for variety.

That's what's killing me.  I already signed up for KS5i50, but KC is 5 minutes from my house and provides the variety.  Guess I can justify that by the money I save not making the 120 mile round trip gas and 2.5 hours time I don't have to spend driving to Lawrence.

This just seems so ridiculous.  What are we up to, like 9 triathlons and one half... and a partridge in a pear tree?  I guess if like to jam in as many races as possible.

That's a little suspect to have the race on the same day.  You pretty much have guaranteed weak showings in both events, unless the majority of the tri crowd (like me) signed up for 5150 to get the early bird.  Luckily I'm out in Olathe and love Lawrence.

Nice to release the site with no info what-so-ever. Site coming in 5 days, but you can sign up now!  Looks a little shady.

I'm a little put off these days by all of the races popping up.  It's amounting to the equivalent of a 5k every weekend watering down the sport.

I'm actually pretty stoked about this.  I wasn't too excited about having my tune-up race for KS 70.3 be on the same darn course.  I had held off on registering for KS 5150 in hopes that a better option would pop up, and what do you know, it did!

I don't really care how many people are there or even if the race organization is more KLM than WTC...I'm happy for the variety.

I wish they would have chosen a separate date from the 5i50 race, knowing the majority of local racers probably took advantage of an early bird discount.  We need some local June races, and this would have allowed better registration numbers to both.  Oh well, hope the KC race does well. At least Sandy and Brian are in tune with the local racers' expectations...

I already signed up for the 5150 and want to get back to Des Moines, so my decision was already made.  But this is just an odd situation all around.  There has to be a reason why they picked that weekend -- possibly due to an arrangement with Jackson County for that weekend.  But they are killing their own participation levels by doing this.

Several people have said to stay away from the KC Triathlon. Wonder why? Nothing around here in May sounds exciting.

I have not committed to either race but would like to know what are the politics behind both decisions of both RDs. I always support local first except KLM that is last choice always, I would rather travel which I did a hole lot in 2012 and had great races.

pOne of the guys who bought the KC TRI was one of the original four who started the race. Then he and one of the others decided to sell the race for a profit for themselves but not the other two. Also the Ironkids race is still being held on the 18th at the same location. The logistics are really messed up.Sounds like a Raging Bull is on crack!

Thanks. Here is what rubs me the wrong way, register now but no course maps no site no info. No course maps no registration, no way I am committing to something I have no clue what it is. They need to get their act together.

I guess I should take their word for the course, much like RR and his machine on forums advertising Branson as a fast bike course. Same stuff.
