Thanks. Here is what rubs me the wrong way, register now but no course maps no site no info. No course maps no registration, no way I am committing to something I have no clue what it is. They need to get their act together.

I guess I should take their word for the course, much like RR and his machine on forums advertising Branson as a fast bike course. Same stuff.

Really?  They said that?  They must have meant "fast" by the fact that on the descents you're moving at 40-50 mph for about 10 seconds before the next mile and a half climb...

Anyone know what's going on with Midwest Mayhem, Meltdown & Jackson Co Tri?  Websites have been down for several days.

They are offering two discount package options: Tinman + St. Louis or Kansas + St. Louis.

I wonder why they aren't offering a package for all three?  I was going to do Tinman for sure, and will like do the St. Louis package.  If they had a package for all three, I would probably do Kansas too.

Do I win something for knowing about this weeks ago?

It might work out nicely 3 weeks after IMKS, plenty of time to recover and give it another go, plus St Louis will be a whole different group of people to compete against.  Sounds fun!

Anybody else notice that the course maps posted on the KC Tri website say "5i50" on them?

http://www.kansascitytriathlon.com/race/course-maps/

If it were the same courses as last year, I could understand someone just mistakenly posting the old maps.  But these are different courses (They appear to be the "traditional" KC Tri courses).  I'm starting to think that WTC may have pulled the rug out from under the KC race late in the game.

They probably should be careful, though.  Seems like trademark infringement to me.

I noticed that too.. It seems there are many things on that Site that appear hastily thrown together. In the FAQ they seem to subtlety blaim wtc when they say basically "this date has been reserved for over a year".

That said, I think I am going to do the KC tri..my son's will do the kids race and being so close to home is too convenient to pass up.

I signed up for the Tinman/St. Louis package yesterday so my schedule is coming together.

I am in for the KC Tri. I don't have a chance to qualify for Hyvee, so why not add some variety to season. I will be it in Lawrence plenty to train, so no need for another practice day at the 5150. Maybe all the fast guys will be in Lawrence that day and I can have a solid day in KC?

It was a stroke of genius (or luck) that 5150 had the early bird pricing ending so soon, otherwise I would have had a choice to make.

It's sad that we triathletes face this uncertainty when trying to sign up for races.  Gear, time and entry fees aren't cheap and it feels like we don't get the same amount of dedication reciprocated from the events we support.

I have signed up for the 5150. What are some other good races in the Kansas area for a first year looking to stick to Sprint and Olympic for this year.

I'm not a potential qualifier for des moines either...so that never really played a part for me.  However, I do find it a bit interesting that 5150 (as you noted) had the early bird pricing ending soon, and also delayed the announcement for the St. Louis as long as they did.  I'm sure part  of it was getting both 5150 (KS and Innsbrook) races maximum exposure, but in the process they probably eliminated many who would have gone to KC and then used the St. Louis race to qualify for Des Moines.

On another note, the Omaha Tri (I did last year) this year is the USAT Midwest Regional Championship for those trying to qualify and/or win something.

The Shawnee Mission Tri is a great race. Well attended and well executed by JoCo Parks & Rec. The course is hilly but short. It's all inside the park so no public traffic to worry about.

I'd recommend the Tinman in Topeka, and the Shawnee Mission Park Triathlon. As Reece mentioned, both are well attended by both beginners and "advanced" athletes.  SMP is one of my favorites, humbling course but alot of fun.

I had the Tinman and Mudwater on my radar, might look in to the SMP race.

All of the races mentioned are good ones - Mudwater is in my home area so of course I'll give it a plug . It's a smaller race (caps at 200 entrants I think) so just something to think about. It has a "home grown" feel with the local tri club running the race and things like a free burger/brat BBQ afterwards. Good people, great race.

For those of you doing KS 70.3 reservations are open for campsites. I am in the same spot Mark an I were in last year. If anyone wants to split it with me let me know. We get 2 cars and 3 tents. I also started the race thread for Ironman Kansas 70.3 under Ironaman races, or whatever that heading is on the main forum page.

We try to keep a running list of all the KC area races on the Leavenworth Triathlon Club website.

I've also updated the page for the CGSC / FMWR Triathlon (informally known as the Leavenworth Triathlon).  Great early season race with a pool swim and a killer bike course if you've never done it.

BUMP...any information?

I'm trying to layout my summer schedule, and I liked the idea of these three races for one price (clarification...it's not a buy one get 2 free deal !)

I set my schedule last night.  I am signed up for the Kansas 5i50, Tinman, Mudwater, and Manhattan Tris.  5i50 and Manhattan are sprints, and Tinman/mudwater are Olympic.

I thought taking it easy for my first year doing triathlons was a good idea!

Alright! Any registration for the CGSC tri? That was my first one back after a LONG layoff, and I think I can beat my time from 2009 (no mountain bike this time!), so looking forward to it as my first tri this season after deployment.

So really looking forward to it! I'm making it a weekend in KC too!
