Overall Rank = 32/63
Age Group = M4049
Age Group Rank = 5/8
Pre-race routine:

Time with the family. Eat a bagel and peanut bar. Let the nerves settle a bit.
Event warmup:

Getting my face in the water and doing a bit of a swim.
Swim
  • 10m 28s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

They said the water was 19 degrees... felt colder on my face when it stung my forehead... HAHA! Swim went really well, especially since I haven't really started training for this until a couple of weeks ago. Thanks baby for pushing me here!!!
What would you do differently?:

Start training earlier.
Transition 1
  • 05m 45s
Comments:

This included a long run from the lake to the transition area. Not really an excuse but it did have a factor in it... Should have been about 2min faster!!!
What would you do differently?:

Lets get these transitions down! I think I could have picked up a few spots here!
Bike
  • 49m 54s
  • 12 kms
  • 14.43 km/hr
Comments:

Ummm... I think this can be summed up in one word... FUN!!! WOW was that a blast! I was worried about my lack of mountain bike experience, and rightly so, but man that was fun! There was a lot of climbing, but what goes up must come down right? I need to work on changing gears especially on the fast downs followed by the steep inclines. Then only times (yes that is plural) I fell on the bike were on the inclines. I would power into the hill and try to either change my gears too early or too late, both resulting in the same outcome... me on my back with my bike in the air still attached to my feet! The downhills were epic though. Flying through the trees at what I thought was blistering speeds, but were probably really just Sunday cruising for most experienced MTB'ers. At the finish line I heard Tony say and there's a Sport Athlete coming in hot... wahoo!! that was me!
What would you do differently?:

Learn to change gears.
Transition 2
  • 02m 27s
Comments:

This sucked! Missed my spot because someone placed their stuff over mine. Again no excuse for this pitiful transition! Again dropped a few spots here!
What would you do differently?:

Speed laces!!! It's a sprint... lets go people!!!
Run
  • 31m 37s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 19s  min/km
Comments:

Again... FUN!!! I love the trail, need to get faster!
What would you do differently?:

More trail running in training. Get back to more stair climbing. Push more, you can do it!
Post race
Warm down:

Taking in the rest of the race. So much fun. WOW some of those guys are FAST!!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

TRANSITIONS and Training.

Event comments:

Smith Events always puts on a great event, and this one was no different! I will do another Xterra... and another... and another...
