Total Time = 2h 31m 6s
Overall Rank = 105/196
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 3/10
Pre-race routine:

Lots of driving--its a bit of a haul to get to Rancho Seco. I also got to try to avoid an apparently suicidal barn owl who was flying along side the road and then veered RIGHT in front (into possibly--but sliding off)of my windshield at 55 mph. I really like owls, and that just almost ruined the day! It did help get some nervous adrenaline out though. When I saw a second barn owl flying alongside the road further up, I sternly ordered it to stay away from the road. Apart from that, pretty much just getting set up. I didn't really eat much (okay, not at all) before the race as my tummy was all funky again---really?!?! I am not nervous, I was there to have FUN! eesh. I hope this isn't going to be my race 'tradition'.
Event warmup:

Wandered around, drank some water. I got into the lake about 1/2 hour early and paddled around, and was giving pointers to some of the first timers (its an all women's race, so its a big event for people to start out with.)
Swim
  • 20m 33s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

Decent swim--I thought it was 100m, not 800...go figure...either way, 20 minutes is awesome in my eyes--best swim time yet--ESPECIALLY during a race. I actually started this race from the front of the pack, I was passed, but I also passed quite a few.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing--I am happy with this. I am sure though that continued training will increase my speed.
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

okay, unsure of transition time--I forgot to turn on my watch at the start of the race, and apparently they didn't differentiate the trans. time from the rest of it in the results...oh well, it FELT like 1:25:00
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...maybe get better at jumping onto the bike.
Bike
  • 1h 20m 31s
  • 20 miles
  • 14.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Decent bike. The bike was working wonderfully, which helped. I actually passed some people on some the hills! Usually I am passed on hills (okay, I still was, but not always!). While not crazy hard, i.e. steep hills, etc. it is NOT an easy course--it takes the starch out of you! At least there was no locust plague this time.
What would you do differently?:

keep on biking.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

Again, unsure of time, but it FELT like 1:05:00
What would you do differently?:

get better at running with the bike.
Run
  • 50m 2s
  • 4 miles
  • 12m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran more than I have before on this course, but it was obviously still not enough. Must. Run. More. Overall not terribly disappointed, but I should have done better.
What would you do differently?:

RUN. MORE.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around waiting for my name to be called to the podium!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

myself. Allowing myself to listen to that stupid little doubting voice in my head that says "go ahead...walk...you need to" I blame that suicidal owl.

Event comments:

I enjoyed this race last year, and I enjoyed it more this year...they changed the sponsor from Luna Bar to Skirt Sports--so now t-shirt for this one, instead we got race bib skirts...in bright pink. I don't really think it suits me, but whatever...I'll try it on for a training run, and we'll see. Although, it seems to me that running in normal tri shorts is much better, as you don't need anything under the shorts, whereas in the skirt you totally do (that is, unless you are doing a 'different kind' of race...more power to ya! :) ).
In any case, its a good fun race.

Well done! I like how you " feel" a transition time of 1:05 - that is really being in tune with things.

Nice job!!!!!!!! Way to recover from the owl episode!

Great job on the swim too!

I've looked at those bib skirts.  I guess they would be good if someone is self-consious about wearing lycra.

Great job Kate!  That's about the longest distance Sprint I've ever heard of.  An Oly race is just 5 more miles on the bike and 2.2 miles more on the run.  Nice work moving through the water and up the hills Smile

Great race! Another podium spot. What is that, two in a row? You continue to improve and grow as an athlete and it's really fun to watch. Keep it up!Ps you are probably going to have to get a photo of that skirt haha

Thanks everyone! I did have a great time! I am happy with it--more than anything, I was just happy to not be in the bottom ten (it got kinda old last year!

I'll see what I can do about the skirt photo! Wink

Great job! I was there for the super-sprint. I wish I could have stayed to cheer you ladies on, but the guys were hungry and we had to go.  How did you like the skirt?  I felt a little less self-conscious with it on, and I don't have a race belt so it helped.
