Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: How many races have you done? This year: 1 Sprint Tri 1 Oly Tri 1 5k 1 10k 1 Half-Mary Before this year it has been 10+ years sine I did a race. I am looking at maybe 6-10 races next year, 1 being a HIM and maybe a IM. It all depends on schedule at my new duty station. I am even think of doing some races as I drive from AK to TN, just to spice it up. A new goal for me is do a race in all 50 states. Jonathan |

Elite 3498 Laguna Beach | Subject: RE: How many races have you done? I lost count of triathlons somewhere around 200-250. Running races- no telling. I once did approximately 5 marathons in 7 days (at the Marathon des Sables in Morocco, an ultra-distance stage running race). Bike races? Impossible to count. In Belgium we raced 3 times a week, sometimes 4. In the U.S. we raced most times in the summer. In 1988 and 1989 I did a lot of bike racing, not so much triathlons. I had an accident outside the sport and it took a long time to recover so I could run again. My life has been a blur of races of some sort since I was 19. I'm 51. In 1986 I did 23 triathlons including Ironman Hawaii. I moved to Arizona about three years ago and haven't done much racing at all since then. That's disappointing. We have no water here- no triathlons every weekend. In Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Michigan we had racing every weekend. It was a blur. You left on Friday, came home Sunday night. Tons of racing. As a result you got super fast ( at least for me- I was never really that fast). I miss racing every weekend. This past weekend I worked three races as an announcer at a race series in Show Low, Arizona. The heck of it is as an event announcer, I can make some money, but as a participant, I have to pay... |

Veteran 512 Tempe, Arizona | Subject: RE: How many races have you done? There are some seriously impressive numbers out there people, but in my book anybody who has got off that couch and done 1, or 1+ is a star I caught this highly-expensive/addictive/fun tri-bug in October 2010, doing my first sprint in the cold and pouring rain, and loved every second of it! I'm restricted by a lack of car, so I normally take part in local races about 5 miles from where I live. In the last year I've been a bit restricted by cash too, so I tend to be a bit more race-selective now, but I've done: Sprints = 5 Oly = 0 but hopefully 1 in <2 weeks (if (1) the weather gods are kind and it doesn't rain the day before thereby cancelling the swim, and (2) my body actually listens to me for once and obeys...)! 4k swim = 1 5k runs = sort of lost count, but about 5-7? Splash and dash events (various distances 0.75/1.0/1.5/2k swim, 3-4 mile runs) = I've lost count, but about 8. I have no goal, I aim to just keep going until I drop, or it stops being fun

I think my goal should now be to run a race in every category in the "Run" menu here on BT. I am pretty close! I am scared of marathon (training) though. |

Master 2563 University Park, MD | Subject: RE: How many races have you done? Hmm, that was an interesting exercise -- I had never gone back and added them up before. I'd separate into 3 "phases" 1979-1996 -- Marathon: 4 (1st at age 12; last in Boston '96) 1996-2009 -- most years just 1 5k event, a couple of dreadful 10ks, getting slower every year, and 50lbs heavier; low point was going over 50 mins for a 10k. Good for some, I know, but not so good when you had once been at 34:xx. 2009-2012 - the mid-life crisis -- Duathlon: 2 No intention to stop racing, if I can help it. I enjoy the training a lot, and the races help to keep the training focused. I just hope to keep finding new challenges to make things interesting. Edited by colinphillips 2012-09-10 9:30 PM |

Pro 15655 | Subject: RE: How many races have you done? Somewhere near, or over, or less than 100 triathlons since 1985.....almost all sprints. I have no idea how many run races I've done, when I was young it seems like I did one every weekend.....in fact, I suppose I don't really know how many triathlons I've done either. If EVERY race counts, and I have to go back to high school and college running XC and track, geez, who knows? I know one year I did 11 sprint triathlons....but then I had years when I only did 3 or 4 (like this year)....and two years when I did no traditional triathlons but did some kayak endurance events that included a run or a bike....and 2 that were just really long paddling experiences. I'm going to do Lake Tahoe IM next year...and then I think I'm headed back to the kayak for awhile...or maybe I'll just watch my kids race and workout because I can while I wait to join the 55-59 age group....that group looks ripe for the picking. Pro 6520 Bellingham, WA | Subject: RE: How many races have you done? Too many to count. My first marathon was in 1977 and first tri was around 1982. I did a lot of races during that period and than just a couple each year until about 5 years ago when I really got back into things with about 20 races per year. Besides the countless shorter races I've done 8 marathons, 4 HIM's and 2 IM's. There is nothing I love more than participating in events. I recently strained my hip and was unable to run a local 15k this weekend that is a pretty big race for the area. I can see parts of the course from my backyard. Got up in the morning, made a cup of coffee, and sat out back watching the race go by. At that moment, I knew in my heart what my greatest gift has been. |
