Age Group Rank = 7/38
Pre-race routine:

I packed up everything the night before, so all I had to do was put the bike in the truck. I had a light breakfast and drove to race sight.
Event warmup:

Not much other than walk to the car a couple of times to get swim stuff. Transition closed at 7 and my wave for the swim was at 8:55 so there was a little time to kill. Hung out with Dud, Mike, Rob, Y, Cheri and Kara. Plus ran into some other friends.
Swim
  • 16m 21s
  • 792 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

I hadnt swam since March when I started having the shoulder issues. The reason I stayed in this race is the water is shallow enough to walk the swim. I did a mix of porpoising, walking, side stroke, and I even did a little freestyle to test the shoulder out. It did fine, although I didn't fully reach.

The sad part is that my swim time this year was only 10 seconds slower than last year! Came out of the water with Mike and we ran the long path to T1.
What would you do differently?:

Actually swim?
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Not a bad T1.
Bike
  • 41m 5s
  • 13 miles
  • 18.99 mile/hr
Comments:

Out of T1 I passed a few riders, but the course is narrow for the first mile or so. Once out on 5 & 20 I was able to push the pace more. My goal for the ride was to be over 20 mph avg. I hit it on the garmin but the course is longer than the 13 miles they advertise. So, next year I need to be faster.

All in all, my biking is getting stronger and I am please with where I am at this point.

I was surprised with all the riders I passed, none were in my AG, only 1 guy that I leap frogged a few times. I can't compare to last year since the bike route was different last year, as they had to reroute for construction.
What would you do differently?:

Keep riding
Transition 2
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

I had a little trouble getting the bike in the rack that cost me a couple of seconds, but otherwise I thought I got through T2 pretty good.
Run
  • 25m 28s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran out of transition and felt I did a pretty good job on the pace but thinking back, I probably spent a little to much time chatting with people along the course. Probably could have pushed harder, but I was having a good time!
Post race
Warm down:

I went back and found Connie and Molly. Waited for the rest of the gang to come in and had a little lunch. I had a good time, and am glad I was able to get at least this tri in this year.

It was a great day with a lot of great friends!

Nice job Ken, we made it home.  The traffic sucked for sure.
