I came across this web site the other day and have been thinking about putting it on my list for this winter.

Anyone have any info or comments on this race. I've never done a "regular" bike race, so I'm not too sure what to expect. From the 2011 race results, it looks like the Masters race was faster than the Cat 4/5. Is that normal? How does a beginning road racer decide between Cat 4/5 vs Masters? Do you feel out of place at these types of events if you're a solo rider who's not part of a "team"?

Masters racers are generally cat1-4 only. A first time racer is always a Cat 5 so you don't really have a choice.

Though once you upgrade to a 4, I'd recommend sticking with 4 or 4/5 races for a while. Masters is 1-4 which means generally lots of studs and/or ex-pro guys who are cat 1 or 2.

Showing up by yourself isn't a big deal. Lots of guys race unattached, especially in the lower cat4 and 5 fields.
