Pre-race routine:

Parked at my comapny's facility which is close to T-station. Took T to Boston Commom and meet with company team. Bought gatorade from 7-11. Used porta-potty. Took team photo. Stretched. Drank 16oz gatorade. Got ready to walk to start line. Needed to pee. Lined up at porta-potty. When done, heard nathional anthem. Realized I couldn't get to the 9-10 min/mile area. Stayed with a couple coworkers who will be walking, i.e. BOP.
Event warmup:

Walked from T station to meeting place, stretched.

Comments:

Great run. Met my goal of finishing under 33 min.
When we passed the start line, the clock was showing 6:30. Too many people, and I started at the BOP. Ran slowly at first. Turned into Arlington St, started to pick up speed. Passed LOTS of people. Running with the music by Bond (the British comtemporary string quatet). Very energizing music. Saw the 1st guy returning when I passed Berkerlry St. Grabbed some water. Picked up more speed by mile 1, with the upbeat 1812. When reached the bottle neck of the "tunnel", everyone slowed into a walk. Wasted about 52 sec walking in that tunnel. After the turn around point, I started this fast/slow intervals alternating at every block, from Glousceter St back to Arlington St. Turned into Boyleston and started sprinting. Could not keep up with the sprint, slowed down a bit after turning back into Charles St. Finished at 39:12. Subtracted 6:30 and my overall time is 32:42. This is the best I did in this race - I've done this for 5 years now.
What would you do differently?:

I am happy with my result. Maybe I should start at the 9-10 min/mile area instead of the BOP? Didn't expect to need to use the bathroom right before the start.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around for food and drinks, picked up race t-shirt. Lined up to get ice-cream. Ran out of ice-cream. Back to company team gather area and reported my time to captain. Walked to Chinatown to get some take out for dinner. Took the T to get my car.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Starting at the BOP.

No splits. HRM chest strap left at company gym locker room last Fri and was never found. Associated watch lost after OWS the past Wed. Will replace pretty soon. Any recommendation of HRM?
Course: From the Charles St between Boston Common and Public Garden along Comm Ave to the Citco sign at where Comm Ave meets Beacon, then back.

Hoooooo...great race DK!  Must be all that training that's starting to pay off.  Running is actually fun once you get in the groove like that.  Whoa, you didn't hear that from me though!!

You did a race to the music of Bond?! That's cool! We went to hear them last year when they toured through Orlando at the House of Blues. Awesome performance!

Anyway, enough w/the music; you ran a great race! Did you get to beat the Big Boss again?

I should dig up my old BOND CD and put them in my ipod. I am running out of running songs (still listening to the Immaculate Collection).

Nice run! Too bad they ran out of ice cream.

Great race DK!       It sounds like there are a ton of people racing.

I bet the Chinese takeout at the end was delicious!
